69 comments: this is #70. Live music is my only God. Thank you pure joy. As a kid/younger me I couldn’t relate to this band. Until I saw them live in 92. Omg so late to the party. Saw gd 6 times , saw JGB 7 times. Thank goodness. 2 rules: don’t litter/ don’t lie. Thanks for posting

Bobby's sound here is awesome. He's playing a lot of the cool fills from what I can gather based on Jerry's tone vs Bobby's.

The build up at the end of this song, when they’re repeating the chorus, is one of my favorite moments, you can hear the damn train picking up steam!

Though i love the Dead from the 69 - 74 time frame the best, especially Pig's squealing R & B numbers, i could never understand how Phil (the geekiest white dude, who looked like he should have a pen filled holder in his shirt pocket) always got such funky dance bass lines?? The chicks dancing like the Family Dog footage not the twirling dancers like this one and later, but real funky dancing to that great rhythm section of the Dead's? Oh well, i guess why question and go with it, have been doing that for 45 years listening and watching em.

Actually, watching this portion of Last Days of the Fillmore in '74 was my introduction to GD. I was hooked then, and still am. The quintessential GD performance.

My older brother and his best friend used to listen to Grateful Dead in the basement and get stoned. I started hanging out with them and they got me stoned and introduced me to The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and the music of the late 60's early 70's. Even though he was killed in a head on collusion 20+ years ago I can't listen to the Grateful Dead and not be thankful he introduced me to this music.. Thank you Jim and Mike I will never forget you teaching me about what GREAT music is.. and I am Grateful for that.. SIgned Forever a DeadHead!

That's funny, my real name is Casey Jones also. I was named after this song, my folks were old-ass hippies from the 60's & all I ever hear is ""Drivin' that train..."" nobody ever wants to finish the line. Go ahead! Say it!!!! ""High on COCAINE"" so what?

Only in the 1970s could you make a song about cocaine
@adamcoats1768 Жыл бұрын
Johnny cash- cocaine blues 1968. Snowblind- styx-1981. Coke babies- radiohead-1993. The cocaine makes me feel like I'm on this song. System of a down-2005. Can't feel my face- the weekend 2015. And there's more than I can mention for this decade.
