Season 8 Episode 18 "Dead Issue" I remember when this episode first aired, April 21 1994. I could not believe it! I know of no other television series on which such a large portion of an episode had its focus on Grateful Dead.
Addendum: Interesting comments. I wonder if when this episode originally aired in 1994 if it created such a tizzy among fans: Selling Tapes; Wrong Set List; No Mickey.
At what point does Dale state he "sells" tapes. He states he runs a clearinghouse for tapes and sells other merchandise.
As I searched around the internet I found out that JamBase had a 2017 article about this issue of LA Law that links to my video. I'M SOMEBODY!! lol

"Maybe they're not just another rock and roll band!" Cute storyline. Not perfect, but nice. Plus, a network TV show, in the days of three networks, ending a Thursday of programing at almost 11 pm with St. Stephen is pretty cool! In KZbin's algorithmic wisdom, the St. Stephen on Playboy After Dark brought this bit of history to my attention. Thanks again for posting.

Exactly. I watched every episode of LA Law. It was a great show. Much better than network dramas today. It had a stellar cast. The references to Dead shows from 67 and 68 was also pretty good for a network TV show. Name me another show that had St Stephen as part of the soundtrack.

As I mentioned to another viewer, it's "fiction" which means fake. It would have been a great set though. Dale "traded" the tapes for the Volvo. I do not recall him saying he sold tapes. He sold other merchandise though. The fact that a highly popular and successful prime time television show dedicated so much time to our band makes me say, "You Win Again."

I went to a Dead concert in SCL where the guy sitting next to me was returning from climbing the four highest peaks in South America. He was three for four, having been weathered out on the fourth. He was on a stop over from South America to Alaska and changed his ticket when he found out the Dead were in town. The two people on my right were corporate lawyers and the guy on my left was a personal lawyer. All types of people love the music.

You are welcome. One day something jogged my memory of this episode, so I did a KZbin search and found the episode in season 8. I used some software to exclude the other story lines. It shows how some people can over do something while at the same time shows how special and unique Grateful Dead is. "They're not the best at what they do. They're the ONLY ones that do what they do." B.G.

Charles Martin Smith, not Clint Howard, portrayed Dale. They both share unique facial features though. I did notice in Dale's Box what appeared to be 8 track tapes. Maybe Dale had his original cassettes converted to 8 track as I had my cassettes converted to CD and now they are all digitized music files. There are no "Bootleg" Dead recordings. As the Dead say, "Once we're done (performing) with it, it belongs to anyone who wants it." I was paraphrasing there. To me Bootleg means illegal. As I mentioned to another viewer, it's "fiction" which means fake. It would have been a great set though. The fact that a highly popular and successful show dedicated so much time to our band makes me say, "You Win Again."

I didn't think I heard Dale outright state that he sold tapes either. Back in the before time in a decade known as the nineties, or naughties to some, there was a store called In Flight in both Ann Arbor and East Lansing, Michigan where one could pay the cost of a Maxell XL II cassette tape plus postage for a huge selection of Grateful Dead and Phish shows. Usually a few days to a week was all it took. That is where I got my Egypt tapes from in fact. I remember how disappointed I was with the Egypt shows. I thought it would be epic playing in the style of Blues For Allah and Terrapin Station. The best part of the Egypt tapes for me, besides 'Ollin Arageed' was listening to the conversations between the people talking close enough to the taper's mic that you could hear every word. One lady asks "Has there ever been a lunar eclipse in our lifetime?" Her partner answers "It's a stupid question." "It's a stupid question." He is not very nice to her. You can hear them say "What is this one called?" "Ship of Fools?" Oh yeah! Dale says that was Watkins Glen where he rattles off that setlist. There was no Mickey in 1973. Good catch!

Just because you don't like the wannabes that carry on the music in their own way, doesn't mean that you are "OFF THE BUS" I listen to the Dead all the time, my wife is not a fan. I would much rather listen to the "ORIGIONAL" with all of their variations that are available. Does that mean that I am "OFF THE BUSS"? I don't think so.

That was pretty good. These comments are unnecessary. What they played, when they played are irrelevant to the extremely nice and loving feelings. Cut the crap...@*&#!
