I am a fan of Grateful Dead for a number of reasons. One of them is the way they play live. Such tight cohesion among 6 or 7 people in jams GD is known for. Best band ever by far.

Absolutely spectacular version. Thanks for sharing. I love the way that the band was so tight and dialed-in at this point of the journey, that they were almost comfortable with the improv towards the end of a tune. They knew they could find their way through it and seemlessly pick up where it was familiar again. The band let Jer run with it!

I like the liquidity to Kieth's keys in this one & Donna NEVER deserved the smart-assed remarks I've seen here on IG. SHE had a tough gig- try reading ahead without pages to follow/a cheat sheet. That could be true, Jeff. 1977 was arguably their best year ever. As we all know, the Barton Hall show (5-8-77) was just a couple months after this one.

As much of a sweet bounce & fluidity this tune has, with room for all (doing the 'rounds') I think the best version of 'Frank' I've heard is definitely by The Dinosaurs at the Rainbow Thtr in Denver 9-16-83 (Relax, Hunter's still in the band at that time). This is a great version though & Kieth's wet licks on those keys make up for Jerry's fkg up the wordses! 'Whichever..(.UHHH) lol

They actually opened the 1st set with the very first live "Terrapin Station". Then the first live "Estimated Prophet" followed a few tracks after. Both in one legendary first set. San Bernadino is legendary for it's unique style of country western music. Gram Parsons or Jer could have told ya all about it better than I could. Hipster County Americana.
