I'm noticing you're not hearing the evolution of instrument and recording technology. Also, over the years The Dead did vary their jams, iow, there were many versions of many of there songs. But not all, particularly when Garcia went downhill music stagnated. Phish is a band in their own right, the Dead Heads that follow them because love the similar threads of improvisation. Try listening to IKO IKO. Here is a great early concert - Grateful Dead Live at Fillmore East on 1970-09-20 (track 14)

According to DeadBase, the definitive source for Grateful Dead set lists and stats, the boys played Hard To handle 103 times in concert in 1969, '70 and '71, and including twice in 1982. Ron "Pigpen" McKernan did lead vocals on all but the 1982 versions, RIP Pigpen, but all the versions I have heard were similar to the one you played. For "peppy" songs i can recommend a couple: Bertha, Big River, a Johnny Cash cover, Hell In A Bucket, China Cat Sunflower/ Know You Rider, Don't Ease Me In, known by Dead Heads as Dough Knees, GDTRFB (Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad), Hey Pocky Way, and they do a ripping Johnny B. Goode. Hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

Really love this lineup of the band. Right after Mickey left leaving just Billy on the drums and a few months prior to Kieth in October of 71. Pig was still in relatively good health as well.

Glad to see you hitting a live Dead song. Btw just listened to your Arthur recording and it seems you are missing a piece of information about the Kinks, They were banned from the United States from 1966 to 1969 so they couldn't tour the US behind the albums or do interviews in the states. It happened because Ray punched a high ranking US union official.

This isn't a reaction. You're literally just recording yourself listening to it. Pause the video every now and then, make comments throughout, discuss the qualities of the song. Maybe do some research beforehand. Are you guys musicians? Talk about the song structure, difference in the original versus this rendition. Not trying to "hate," but this lacks content, dudes. Why does phish come up in Grateful Dead dead song reviews? it just seems rushed and shallow at best. Maybe a review would be a better word for this? I don't know, but watching two dudes bob their heads and then vaguely talk about nothing is not it. Good Luck
