Brent brought maximum energy every time and this electrified the rest of the band, particularly Jerry.
@michaelfriese431 Жыл бұрын
I completely agree… I feel Brent brought a new kind energy to the band at a time they needed it… Jerry seemed to me to connect with Brent and tap into and build onto that energy… so many times I saw Jerry and Brent grooving together in such a powerful way… shows weren’t the same for me after Brent was gone… I saw shows with Bruce and Vinny and it was still the greatest show on earth but they didn’t seem to bring the intense energy that Brent did… that was when I started going to more Jerry Band shows…I’m so glad that I did because those were very special years for me. Thanks for sharing your intense energy with us Brent ❤️

my favorite keyboardist bar none! Why oh why did you have to do that last speedball? The Dead were a shadow of their former selves without you! but we are all richer for having heard you play, sing & write! for that I am eternally Grateful!

I was a little kid around the age of 8 or 9. As soon as I heard Jerry, then Brent I was addicted. I bugged the living shit out of my dad to get a guitar and a keyboard. I got the guitar :) But I had to wait for the right keyboard. I'm 40 now and I just now got a sweet keyboard. I can't stop playing with it! Brent was the reason I always wanted a set of keys, as Jerry was the reason I have to many guitars. I'm so incredibly thankful for being able to hear this wonderful music that has always inspired me!!!!

After an insane JFK show, we jumped in the car to lovely Newark, NJ to catch this gem. Brent was on fire in '89 and playing with remarkable presence. "Just a Little Light" was perfect for this tour. Brent was and forever will be the spark that made GD in the 1980s!

@estonephoto7 жыл бұрын
J. Mayer was NOT at GD50-- Trey was.. Although I have not seen the new Dead and Co, as I choose to NOT live in the USSAA-- I am PROUD of Bobby, Micky, Billy, Phil and those behind the scenes for passing on the torch of who we are as a TRIBE.. A family, a history of love, peace and understanding.. I hope you evolve into understanding that this is NOT about Jerry or Pigpin, or Keith, or Brent, or Vince, T.C or and ONE person. When Jerry passed, I felt as if my grandfather had passed-- again. THis IS about passing on a tradition of true tribe and music. And technically your hated J Mayer was NOT at GD50-- he joined after that FAMILY REUNION to tour and OUR TRIBE CHANGED HIM, as it did many of US. Your Phish father Trey was at GD50-- so if you are going to hate, make sure you direct it to the right place. When you lose a member of your family, you dont give up on the living, you pass the heritage on. Please look up to your fallen family and thank them for giving us the WAY and the COURAGE --- Just a little sweetness, just a little light.. Your words show that you never really "got it" and never really understood why we all kept following the music, the love, the passion.. it was US-- not one person.. it was the collective. IT WAS US AND THEM AND THEM AND US.. IT was so many roads, so many journeys, so many faces, so many times we lived in love.. that we TAKE with us, no matter what.. I pray to Jah, you find evolution and love your family.. Love unconditional, or dont love at all.. If you dont like it, great, but hating -- shows your real self.. and shows that you should just listen to the radio.. Peace, love and understanding. A lifetime fan.. of ALL the parts of the whole..

This soulful performance shows why GD shows were so epic. Not just a bunch of performers crankin out another show, another tour, another dollar (though by the end years, money was a motivator for sure). No, Brent lived his tunes, as did Jerry. bobby too for that matter. They were the embodiment of the central narrative character of any song they did. In the end they fell victim to their own devices, just as many of their song characters did. Phil tried to warn Jerry in "If the Shoe Fits".

It was an unforgetable time & camping adventure! It rained heavily... making walking challenging thru the thick muddy parking lots & camping areas. I recall inside the shows-oblivious Deadheads flying with beers in hand down the slick as a slip & slide grassy, mud soaked hills of Alpine as GD jammed! It was hilarious to watch!! Great memories of the muddy magical few days & nights camping, drinking, eating, shopping, partying, dancing making merry memories with a huge roadtrip caravan of friends to WI from my home town in MI. many cool people... t items stuff from Deadheads. Great shows, memories, people, food, wares & GD culture there at Alpine in 89'!

I have been listening to this bad religiously for 37 years and in my twenties I used to dismiss this song. As an old 50 year old dude who has had his ups and downs this song now resonates with me. Thats why I love them, because their songs mean something and ring true. That being said I am furious with what is going on in Deadland for a long time. It died with Jerry and it should've. To see John Mayer just tears me apart and makes me wonder if I was sold a bill of goods for all those years. Either way, great memories, friendships and stories from the road. I wouldn't change a thing. For me, a "touchhead" as I admit I am. it was never the same without Brent. He was just coming into his own. That was a huge loss "

Great song by GD, one of my favourite ones. Btw, anybody knows where can I find "Gentlemen start your engines" by GD? On YT there's a lot of clips with this title, however they relate to NASCAR only and sadly have NOTHING to do with the song. It was round here about year ago, why did it disappear? AFAIR GD was always very tolerant on taping and republishing amateur recordings from their concerts and this was plainly a concert taping.

Not to say I wouldn't have got laid without them, but they sure made things a whole hell of a lot easier! God blessed us with Brent! And for that I am forever grateful!
