I play this song, because today I said goodbye to a friend. He died at the age of 36. Although he was young during most of the Dead's days, he saw the last concert, on Jerry's birthday before Jerry died. The laid him out today in the shirt he would have wanted to wear....of course, a dead shirt. If anyone reads this, keep my friend in mind, because he was a true Deadhead. RIP Steve.

Hi mama,your story reminds me of mine. When my grandson was just a babe and wouldn't fall asleep,I would put him in his stroller and walk around the neighborhood singing this song to him...soft,sweet,and full of love. He doesn't remember but I will never forget.

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go no one may follow That path is for your steps alone You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall you fall alone If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home Songwriters: GARCIA, JEROME J. / HUNTER, ROBERT C. Ripple lyrics © Universal Music Publishing Group

many years ago I was camping out in the Indiana Dunes. The Grateful Dead had just had a gig in Chicago ...well ...many of their true followers came down to camp in the Dunes. Oh my.. it was amazing.... I woke up with a sweet fellow curled up by the warm embers of my fire and another asked me to point him to the lake because he needed a bath. Needless to say .... that morning you could get a lovely contact-high just walking through the park. God Bless them all...Great Memories

Last heard of, ripples of sound waves of this song had reached a galaxy far, far away and still travelling at the speed of light. Sound travelling at the speed of light! It is perhaps seeking out Jerry somewhere out there, scattering pleasure on the way, all the way.
@CorrieBergeron
@CorrieBergeron 8 жыл бұрын
A lovely sentiment. However, the signal of this song has only traveled 36 light years. The first radio signal has gone 100 light years. While there are quite a few in that volume, on the scale of the galaxy, that's hardly even noticeable. Space is Big. Really Big. zidbits.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/how-far-in-space-our-radio-broadcasts-reach1.jpg

This tune was the first I had played at my son's "Celebration Of Life Service" Saturday, November 10, 2012! It was five days after I lost him when he was driving to early morning college classes on the highway having a freak front left blowout dying on impact with the guardrail! Tears flow everytime I hear it! Hunter, you are deeply missed Buddy! RIP: June 2, 1993 to November 5, 2012!

"If I knew the way, I would take you home" This song has so many inspiring lyrics. When it first came out, it was one of the very few Dead songs that made it to mainstream radio, thus it always seemed played out to me. However, in the past few years, I have come to really like this song. Just sit and chill and listen to this song. It will inspire you.

Whether you like this band or not this song is a time capsule. A ticket to a place that can no longer be visited. If one song can be bigger than a band this is it. To go to a Dead concert was to be transported to another dimension. It was a dimension of musical mastery. The Dead would transport you on their music. They start out playing a song like Uncle John's Band and go off on a 20-30 minute jam and then at the end of the song you realize what happened and all you can do is just think "WOW THAT WAS AWESOME." And then they do it again and again and again.....

Thumbs up if this should be shown in High School US History class. 1980 Dead, with the acousitc sets at Warfield and MSG, should be part of our history. Long live Jerry and the Dead!!!
