One of, if not THE, best versions of this song they ever performed. Such a mellow vibe yet so full of enigmatic bliss. Beautiful stuff, as usual. Whoever was deaf or dumb enough to give this a thumbs down needs a good hard smack upside the head with Lesh's bass!

True magic when they transition from scarlet to fire at around 7:48-7:58. It's hard to tell the exact moment but try and please comment. Can't believe someone put the thumb down. So many thanks to the Dead for letting people tape these shows. Coolest band ever for letting anyone tape every show. Thanks to whoever recorded this for those of us who were too young and missed them. Peace, goodwill, listen with grins. The Dead will never die as long as we're still listening.

I've always wondered(20yrs now) if you had to cut it or make a determination when Fire really starts, when would it be? I say around 11:41. God Bless the Grateful Dead.

Everyone's got their favorite Dead moments. For me, between 16 and 17 minutes into this is equivalent to the best sex I've ever had. Full-body eargasm. Garcia was an architect of guitar solos. Phil Lesh is an essential ingredient to Garcia's greatness in this format. The two of them sculpt their jams together like interconnected neurons, part of a single organism.

Over the mountain, over the moon, over the rainbow, coming home soon. GD, you do us like no one has done us before or since. Anyone is welcome to try. Bring it on, sisters and brothers! Bless the soles of your feet and crown of your soul.

right-on; it's something those who have no idea what the dead where about are completely missing. they hear something off a lp version on the radio and get the wrong idea utterly.... as it's said: "there's NOTHING like a Grateful Dead show!"... those was the days!

2-26-77 for starters, show is INCREDIBLE...not that this ISN'T but there is this idea that Cornell 77 is the greatest show all time....not only is it not the greatest show all time it's not even the best show from that year.... 6/9/77 too

KhalDrogo76 my money is in 5/17/77. Naysayers hold on now. The Minglewood, Half Step, pair of Jack's and way way out there Terrapin are all incredible performances. archive.org/details/gd77-05-17.sbd.weiner.18554.sbeok.shnf

Which ones in 77 are better? I was at New Haven May 5, 1977 and it was great. I welcome your opinion as I'm building up a collection of great shows. Thanks.

surprise your son with some 1960's GD violent thrashing about in the delirium of beauty/chaos/unexplored musical territory, let him see that they were complete monsters of sonic audacity, way before the 70s songcraft took hold (now do not get me wrong --- I for one will spend hours with Robert Hunter's craft voiced by Jerry, but you gotta give it those early cosmic journey days - they were so FN Different and mean.... YEAH!!!!!! or someone might suggest you enlighten them to plant/fungi
