When I first heard this, I was taken by it, and when I heard them sing "blue suede shoes," I thought this was Carl Perkins' original song of that name, until I heard the real one performed by John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band on their "Live Peace in Toronto 1969" album. But I never knew until now that this one was by the Grateful Dead! And the trippy '70s animation goes with it beautifully! Thanks for posting!

Red and white, blue suede shoes, I'm Uncle Sam, how do you do? Gimme five, I'm still alive, ain't no luck, I learned to duck. Check my pulse, it don't change. Stay seventy-two come shine or rain. Wave the flag, pop the bag, rock the boat, skin the goat. Wave that flag, wave it wide and high. Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my. I'm Uncle Sam, that's who I am; Been hidin' out in a rock and roll band. Shake the hand that shook the hand of P.T. Barnum and Charlie Chan. Shine your shoes, light your fuse. Can you use them ol' U.S. Blues? I'll drink your health, share your wealth, run your life, steal your wife. Wave that flag, wave it wide and high. Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my. Back to back chicken shack. Son of a gun, better change your act. We're all confused, what's to lose? You can call this song the United States blues. Wave that flag, wave it wide and high. Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

When I was 17-18 I used to walk dogs and get paid in pot, get drunk and rip bongs with my landlord Jack, he followed grateful dead touring from '82 to '89, tickets in a picture frame. Picture he took of Jerry on a bookshelf. Surround sound on full blast yelling the songs out. He had so many crazy wild stories to tell about those days. Those years were crucial to my development as a musician, and I'll always be grateful for the time, pun intended !

happy July 4th everyone ...I'm so thankful to live in the greatest country on the planet ! "wave that flag....wave it wide and high"
@cashman3107 жыл бұрын
ChrisAndTommy GoodTimeFolkRockShow You DO realize that the song is sarcasm, & anti-USA Govt. "Wave the flag..." is sarcastic as can be! It is basically an anti-Vietnam War Song being highly critical of the Govt.'s bullshit, and the nationalistic flag wavers that buy and/or bought the USA Govt.'s buuulllsshhiiitt! By the way, President Trump is the closest thing to a "straight shooter" who really tells it like it is, to be in the White House since JFK was brought down by "them". Reagan was at least a patriotic guy that loved the country. He was supposed to be assassinated though, because Bush always had a helluva time winning elections. Reagan did "play ball" with the ruling globalist elitists though, but they thought he was to much of a maverick or "cowboy". Reagan started to believe he actually could help the world, the rulers hated that, so they basically "put a stop to that" and his "cowboy" ways! The whole bunch or the rest of the Presidents (both parties) after JFK, and before Trump were/are crooks and puppets or an 'arm' of the corruption and evil! Johnson, Bush's, Clinton's, & Obama were straight-up EVIL & the absolute WORSE!! WAKE-THE-FUCK--UP if YOU DON'T KNOW ANY OF THIS STUFF YET!! ESPECIALLY the BRAINWASHED ANTI-GOD LIBERALS! It's sadly, most likely too late to fix NOW, without the Lords help with protecting Pres. Trump, they all are certainly doing their best to get rid of him, and/or make him an ineffective President with their obstructionistic road blocks! Despicable. Don't get me wrong. BOTH PARTIES are BAD! There ARE some VERY GOOD people on BOTH SIDES AS WELL! A LOT of Liberal policies, and thought, are crafted as though "they" think that THEY ARE GOD,(Breaking NEWS- YOU'RE NOT!!) You NEED TO FOLLOW GOD'S RULES, GOD'S LAWS, and NOT THINK YOU ATE GOD AMD MAKE YOUR OWN! Hint: GOD CREATED BORDERS! IT'S BIBLICAL! Oh crap, sorry..., forgot that I'm reminiscing and was enjoying peaceful good thoughts,and was.actually in a 'good place' with 'The Dead', LOVE 'em!! Watched a few hours of 'em this morning already. Sorry if I caused a "buzzkill" but the country is in very dire straits now, and Washington DC is majorly corrupt after Bush Sr.'s time, Clinton's 8 Years, Bush Jr./Cheney's 8 yrs, and Obama's 8 yrs.Just sickened by where this country has been, is, and will be going unless God actually has Trump's back as many-many-many born-again Christians DO BELIEVE! He isn't a corrupt politician, nor is he evil... 1st time in a long-long time we haven't had at least one, usually both of those in he White House! Back to peace and love for all... and back to our beloved GRATEFUL DEAD or The Dead & Co.... Hope to see The Dead & Co. once again before it's too late or impossible to do so!
