The Dead formed in 1965 in San Francisco, and their music incorporates almost any musical influence except heavy metal. They were a mainstay of the psychedelic music scene. Their concerts were epic, they almost never played songs the same way from concert to concert, with extended instrumental improvisational sections.

The Grateful Dead's fans are called deadheads. They "toured" with the band for decades, following the band around in a big caravan and parking and camping out in the event parking lot. They'd party and you could by psychidelics in the parking lot. The Dead played many many more shows than the second place band. A true jam band.

Their song “Touch Of Grey” is one of my favorites. I’m a disabled veteran, and it’s the first song on my “Music The Help Me Feel Better” playlist.

The line “I live in a silver mine, and I call it “Beggar’s Tomb” is a brilliant line of poetry.

Over the years I caught a few "Uncle John's Band" 's at Dead Shows, and when the line "Any body's choice, I can hear your voice.", was played, well, the crowd would let out massive yells, and the band would smile on the stage, and respond. "UJB" was a beloved song, because of the lyrics and their meaning, and we always were happy when it got played.

For the sickest transitions ever caught on tape, check out 11/17/73, playin in the band > Uncle John’s Band > Morning Dew > Uncle John’s Band > Playin in the Band. It’s no joke.

Society has changed quite a bit. We would just sit and listen to music together. Sometimes someone spoke, but other times no one spoke for an entire album. Life wasn't as fast paced as it is today.

My best friend and hippy neighbor was into the band more than me when I was younger. I wished he would have invited me along a few times he was saying he was getting to go see them. Almost 60 and still pretty jealous he got to and I never got to (

He just became a deadhead as the song went on. It is something to see it occur in real time. There is no band quite like the dead. Check out "Touch of Grey" maybe.....

The Dead recorded this album & American Beauty while hanging with CSNY, Joni Mitchell & others in Laurel canyon, and actually collaborated on various dongs & albums together. You can hear how it brought harmonies to this and other songs from those albums. Still a great song & message.✌️❤️🎶
