In the 100+ shows I saw Brent Mydland with the Grateful Dead from 79-89 I never saw Brent play an acoustic piano. That was an aspect of the GD that was sorely missed after the departure of Keith & Donna.

That week was one of the most glorious and memorable weeks of my life. Saw 6 of 8 Dead shows at RCMH: worst seat - 6th row right in front of Jerry; best seat - 2nd row right in front of Jerry. These shows - because of the acoustic sets - and the shows in 77-78 were "the Mott's." Yeah, I wasn't on the scene yet in 70-72.

What's this "no thanks to youtube" (above)? You've shared this with nearly 44000 people at no cost to you or us. I think that's fantastic, and am grateful for it, to you, and KZbin, and the Dead :)

Now that's interesting...in some of the photos and concert footage I've seen from circa 84-86, like on the So Far video, it looks like Brent has an electric grand piano. It kinda looks like a Yamaha CP-70 (the model Keith was using during 77-78), but it looked like it was in a brown wood body. Was that some kind of early digital piano or what?
@MusicIan42315 жыл бұрын
you maybe still can! the Dead do tours still, only instead of one of the greatest guitarists ever (Jerry Garcia) they had to fill in with TWO of the greatest guitarists ever (Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring, from Gov't Mule and Jazz Is Dead, respectively)!!! I saw them in 2004 with my father, who was an old deadhead... and he said it was BY FAR the BEST Dead show he'd ever seen! Quite an experience

A Dead favorite of mine. Are the obscure additional verses to this song bonafide? such as "Would you carry me uphill back the way I carried you? Take me further, if you can, (You know) I'd do the same for you." etc. Was that senator Franken at the end of this?
@MrTormey12 жыл бұрын
The parking lot of a Dead show is better than any other concert I ever went to, and I've been to hundreds. Disclaimer: It could've been the acid o.O

Did Brent ever use an acoustic piano onstage? I know in the late 80's he had a digital piano, but all the footage I've seen of them from the early 80's, he just a Fender Rhodes.
