I played hooky from work that day, and went to see this great tribute to Bill. Bused in from Sonoma county, and getting back was a trip. The bus was almost all partiers. Best time ever, even given the sadness of the event. Almost got fired too! Ha.

I was there, what a day, what a week. I heard news reports that the crowd estimate was estimated to be somewhere 350,000 to a half million. The low end estimate was confirmed with fly-overs, but they allowed that the trees obscured some of the crowd from view. Amazing, chill crowd, and the largest I've seen. I was about 50 feet up a eucalyptus tree when the Dead started, just to see the view... RIP all gone ahead, we're still holding strong here

I was there my senior year in college at the University of San Francisco... wow... I couldn't believe the amount of people who came to the show... it was quite an experience. I remember just looking all around and trying to take it all in!!!!

This was one of the amazing days of my life. Parked about a mile out from the park and biked in....with supplies including a mini TV set borrowed on batteries. Greatest moment was during Tracy Chapman's set...singin "Fast Cars".....and the Niners score. The whole crowd roars/goes ecstatic in front of poor Tracy in the midst of this totally downer song. Best funny concert moment ever.

Got there in the early morning. Hiked over from Ocean Beach, and got a seat in the bleachers. By the time the Dead came on, there was a sea on a sea of people. Highlight of the day had to be CSNY playing together again. That and Evelyn Cisneros of the SF Ballet dancing to Carlos Santana.

I was there. Fogarty's guitar was unplugged for most of the set, or something. Still a great day, GD, Robin Williams, Journey. Rockin!

I was there too. So glad I found this video to remind me. Journey stunk but Santana was there too!! I remember the Otis plane too, but little cookie bundles landed around us.

I feel lucky I got to be in the crowd that day. Watching from the back by a bunch of Hells Angels.

@Grumpkin67 _____>>>> let's not forget this day was a memorial to the late great Bill Graham.....true rock and roll icon.....music wouldn't have reached this potential had it not been for Bill and his visions......he cared for the audience as much as the bands.....never one before or since like him.....RIP Uncle BoBo

I remember being at a music festival in like 2007-2008 and someone played this song really loud on the morning after I was coming down from an acid trip. This version of the song was AMAZING...

So many highlights that day in the park for me, one that stands out is the Otis plane flying over the polo field and dumping thousands of red and white carnations on the crowd. That was pure magic, with a little help from some wicked liquid. lol

Front and center, I was. What a day! I Pissed off a guy who layed down a blanket at 5 am and thought it gave him teritorial rights. Evidently it was his first concert. He didn't like me and my friends showing up @ 9 am and walking right past him. From this angle, I think I was right in the area of you. I remember a guy witha pretty serious set-up. Sec. noticed but let him slide. Was that you?

People were respectful I will give you that.. but there was NO drug testing for the 'Heads' or the 'Bands/Musicians'.. but you are correct that people were respectful.. and grateful that the city let this be put together so quickly.. and in the park of all places (:

Because it was about every accomplished musician within a 50-mile radius just descending on Golden Gate Park on almost instant notice to pay a free tribute concert to legendary San Francisco rock concert promoter Bill Graham, who had been killed a few days earlier in a helicopter crash. Was amazing to be there -- all happened within less time than ticket companies now take to put together their complicated metrics for selling $1,000-plus concert tickets.

Drug testing! Haha, on the way home from the show, the muni drivers allowed us to pass joints around on the bus. You know, San Francisco was a different place before the dotcom explosion. They let us do what we want so long as no one got hurt. What a beautiful day this was.

:/ something Not right about this.... Not that it Matters! This song is the one that I can recall most from my Childhood. Despite only Being 17, I can safely say this sums up my Life. not for the meaning of the song, more for the fact that it was played for me every day. Love CCR/John Fogerty!

It could possibly be that the Grateful Dead were so stoned that they forgot such a simple song. The rhythm section is all over the place. The groove is completely wrong.
