If they played it just like Jerry, they’d only be setting themselves up for failure and to come in second place. Cover bands are only interesting when they put their own spin on it.

@@PupienusMagnus one question, how many times did you see Jerry in concert? There were two stretches of time where Jerry just played horribly, and couldn't sing worth squat. In fact there are several cover bands I've seen that are actually better then what Gerry played in those time periods. So I don't think there is anything such as failure when it comes to covering Grateful Dead Tunes LOL. But I see this a lot with cover bands in general, even better than amateur musicians, they just play too fast. Takes awhile to become a seasoned enough musician but you can play at a comfortable pace and not hurry the music. Been there done that.
