@Mark-gg6iy3 жыл бұрын
@@GratefulGlamper Yes, I saw your video and understand what the issue was. These are the tests and technical expertise that an owner should consider having. Now that you know where the filters (x2) are, how they are replaced, and how to test the fuel pressure the question is can you do this work yourselves? I was speaking in general about the constant need to monitor fuel with a diesel engine. As I said, if I owned that rig I would investigate an aux filter in an easily accessible location in addition to the OE. Lastly, possibly a fuel pressure gauge as well. Food for thought.

This is exactly why I prefer a travel trailer or 5th wheel... If the truck you're pulling it with breaks down, at least you still have a place to live.... and.... You can simply find another truck to tow it with if needed... and.... It's a lot move convenient to simply tow a pick-up truck to a repair shop... probably cheaper to fix as well....

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. Some will remove this device, effectively bypassing it with an exhaust pipe modification. I have read where these are notorious in some CAT's for causing performance and stalling issues. You definitely want this system serviced religiously if still installed.

@ 9:32 - that sounds like a fuel or fueling issue. Almost like there's air in the fuel rail - which could be something as simple as a line or fitting that's not tight, in which case you would see/smell fuel while cranking. Or the injectors aren't firing, or they aren't getting fuel. If it's either of those, it's gonna cost some big money for either new injectors or a new high pressure fuel pump, plus up to 3-5 hours of labor. I hope it's not either and something way simple.

Been there a few times. One trip into BC Canada with the family had a major squeal in my truck with the truck camper on back in the middle of nowheres. It only did it a couple times and we made the trip but was nerve wracking. A couple years later on a VERY hot family trip blew a pulley and a belt and lost the air conditioner. Made it to an expensive campground that was full. They put us in a open field out back. Was a great time. Limped home with the truck a few days later to get repairs. So sorry for your troubles. I had a similar situation with my class C gas powered Thor Fourwinds 2018. I left the campground in north Carolina went to the gas station to gas up and discovered a significant gas leak coming from my fuel tank. Long story short I called FMCA road rescue. They could not get a tow vehicle out till the next day and we’re going to told me to a Ford dealership 8 miles away. I called that dealership only to discover that they did not have a lift for my RV. After calling around all afternoon I could not find any place that would even look at the RV. Thankfully my son lives in Virginia and he is a Ford technician. I had the RV towed to his home 200 miles away and he quickly discovered a fuel line was punctured by a varmint teeth. A $65 part was all that was needed to fix this. It is very frustrating that RV mechanics are few and far between and when found will not even look under your rig to determine whether you needed a lift or not. My son was able to fix this without a lift just using my levelers. For you guys, another option I thought of would have been FMCAA Has a service of volunteers that if you reach out to them may help come move a rig or something. Escapees may also have this

It's free to use and then you can let a diesel mechanic know the reading. Hopefully it has been resolved. If the code is a low fuel rail pressure, there are many things that can cause that. News flash. All engines need service from time to time. The access to the engine on a motorhome is through the bedroom floor. You have a Cat C7 engine. It uses HEUI injectors. The first thing I'd check is the fuel pressure to the fuel rail. Most auto parts stores will have a fuel pressure gauge. Plumb it into the fuel rail somewhere and see what pressure you are getting to the injectors. If the fuel pressure is OK, then next thing to check is the high pressure oil pressure that fires the injectors. Do some reading on the 7.3 Powerstroke as this engine operates in a very similar way. The C7 is the newer version of the 3126. If you have HP oil pressure and fuel to the injectors, it will probably run.

No need to say news flash... thats rude and like they said in the video their services wasn't even due yet and also in the video the did go through the bedroom floor to the top of the engine maybe you should actually watch the video 🤔
@ace1usmc3 жыл бұрын
That's totally terrible advice. You don't hook up a fuel gauge from an auto parts store to the fuel rail of a Cat C7 engine. The fuel rail pressure in a C7 will be around 5,000 - 6,000 PSI. Auto parts gauges are usually only able to measure/withstand 120 PSI MAX. You hook that up to the fuel rail of a C7, and it's gonna blow up in your face and cause permanent damage to your face, and probably blind you for life.
@SomeTechGuy6663 жыл бұрын
@@ace1usmc Nope. HEUI engines have 2 rails. A low pressure (~50PSI) fuel rail that feeds fuel to the injectors and a high pressure OIL rail (3,000 PSI) that feed oil to the injector. One gauge on each rail will quickly tell you what is wrong with the engine.

Fuel filter is the first likely issue. If you have changed that, the next thing I recommend is add a bottle or two of seafoam to your tank. It's amazing how it helps to clean out the tiny holes in the injectors and cleans out the crud. I've used it on all my vehicles up to 80k diesels, and it really does work. Make the concentration strong, run it hard and get it nice and warm. Idle for a couple minutes, and shut it off for a while to let the dissolving action work. Fire up and give it some beans. Should help if that was the problem.

Our worst day was two blow outs...an hour apart! Commercial Tire helped us limp to their lot, let us stay the night protected and fixed us up the next morning. I'm just glad there wasn't any footage of my face...I super freaked out...didn't handle being that scared very well! Great job, Mom and Dad!

To me 🧐 It does sound like electrical issues. If possible have them check your charging systems because not enough power won’t start your engine and if your not getting a charge in the battery , it will die when you apply brakes. Best of luck 🤞🏼

RED's kick up road debris up on the radiator. Boondocking also dirties your radiator. Keeping it clean is essential to staying on the road. Something to think about.

You really have to stay on top of those things, they're so underbuilt it's not even funny. it's about like hauling around a skyscraper with a Volkswagen Powertrain. They generally won't run long without a major money dump

Thx for the video! I am now convinced to get a 5th wheel instead of class A. If your Class A breaks down the whole house is broken down and with a 5th wheel if your truck has motor problems at least you can unhook and get it fixed at a lot more options. Hope it turns out not to be too expensive of a fix, love your channel! :)

OMG bla bla. The traveling life is like a Assembly chain. Ppl in ppl out. When something goes wrong your not part of that anymore. No reason to get up set or stressed out.You now move in to problem solving line. #1 if keeping that Diesel pusher then a DIY code Reader be good. Even if your not doing the work yourself. Lights , buzzer not bad. Boom Bang blinking engine lights are the stressful lights and sounds. Good info is what code come up. So when you call for service a lot of times the service department can tell you. Easy fix you keep going. Hard fix needs done don’t drive anymore then need be. A blinking engine light everyone should know stop running the motor right now. In my 20 years OTR truck driving 3 things that stops a diesel. No fuel , bad air flow , mechanical failure. Other then that go your not going to hurt a diesel. Getting the codes when you call the service department will save a lot of everything.

Sounded like an injector... or you are loosing a prime on the fuel system.. There is a lift pump in the tank to bring fuel to the filter..could be simple maybe a loose fitting.. good luck

Sounds like you have a lots of good help. I'd want to know which engine diagnostic codes are being triggered. Searching online the main causes of Cat 330 c7.1 engines not starting are fuel, intake manifold heater, injector o ring leaks, and engine control module. Since it initially happened while driving down the road I would rule out intake manifold heater. If you didn't recently refuel you can probably rule out bad fuel. If no diesel leak/smell near the injectors I would rule out the o ring. I would guess it's the engine control module. If so hopefully someone has one in stock locally and worst case they aren't on backorder given the semiconductor shortage.

On a diesel, the best/cheapest first thing to change is the fuel filters! It can cause many weird things to happen!
