It won't take as big of a hit as you might think. They aren't banning people from other states driving their RVs in California. They are just preventing new ones from being sold and registered there. So the large chunk of tourists who are from other states will still come, for a while anyway. In addition to that, many of the people who would have bought a motorhome will just switch to a truck and trailer. They will probably lose most of their tourism eventually for other reasons, not this. They will also see a huge chunk of their economy collapse as RV businesses close and repair facilities go away. And the gas price hikes won't help either.

There is no viable zero emissions vehicle in existence today (if you consider how they make the batteries and how long they last). That's correct, everything takes something. Even gas takes 2kwh of energy to produce a gallon from the refinery (I can drive 8 miles on those 2kwh). But then you add emissions when driving it. That's the difference. The result (even the wsj said this) is that in under 2 years all the emissions from producing an EV are swamped by the emissions from burning gas. My 10 year old tesla 2015 is holding steady, I have 90k miles on it. Plus we already recycle battery materials to put into new batteries, and they pay you for them. So we've got a viable lifecycle for EVs now, and it's not just "lifetime" emissions are lower, it's that for a new EV vs a gas car, lower emissions than the gas car in only 2 years of lifetime.

A couple of notes not mentioned in your video: #1 Any RV that has 7500 miles or more on it on it can be registered in any of those states even 2025's. #2 The program also allows manufactures (like Ford or Chevrolet) to move clean air credits from their existing electric vehicles they sell, to their gas and diesel motorhomes that use their engines. For those manufactures that do not build electric cars to move credits, those can buy clean air credits from companies like Tesla. So there are ways to comply with the regulations. There is also discussions going on to give limited credits to motorhomes as the average motorhome drives less than 3500 miles a year.

I understand the idea behind these laws, but without viable and affordable alternatives I think it's too heavy-handed. We're going to very quickly see the availability of older models drop to zero, since people will be buying them all up and holding onto what they have. For newer models that eventually utilize EV technology, not only are there still not enough EV charging infrastructure widely available in all States, but the cost of these eventual new RV's that meet the new standards is going to be astronomical. On top of that, I can see this having a measurable effect on the tourism industry across the US, in particular the affected States. I'm also curious what the weight of future RV's will be, and if it will dramatically reduce the load they can carry. Seems like it will be only the wealthy who will be able to afford to travel in the near future.

Unfortunately the industry doesn’t change until it’s forced to change through laws and government incentives. If nothing is done, companies just keep lowering the quality to make the most profit. Just look at any new RV, appliance, etc. We can’t keep making crap that pollutes the air and fills the landfill. The lifespan of furnaces and windows is now 15 years, if you’re lucky… used to be 40+ years. We can’t continue like this and we have to consider the world we’re leaving to our grandchildren. Companies won’t change unless they’re forced to change.

When the middle class was finally able to afford it, they couldn't stand it and have been working hard to get back to rich only regressivist playspaces again.

I guess it’s time to pass EV Hwy tax laws. If you’re traveling through a state in an EV of any kind you will have to stop and buy a state pass to drive through it or into the state. EV’s do not support our roads and hwy maintenance and repair. If you don’t pick up an EV pass to drive through a state and you’re pulled over it will be 3x the cost of an EV pass. EV passes will start at $100 and good for 30 days. It will be an expensive drive through the fly over states. If the woke states want to close businesses with their policies we might as well support other states businesses.

This is to prevent people living in RV's, a more affordable option for so many people. Diesel engines have been 'polution' free since approx 2007. Your coach included. If you have DEF or DPF, your vehicle is already clean. This is the stupidest BS ever put out there by any government. What was the point of creating and implementing the DEF, AND DPF's in the first place, which burns or filters out all diesel particulate, if they are now not considered 'effective ' enough?.. this has nothing to do with cleaning the air and everything to do with owning tax based property. They know full well there aren't electric options for RV's, and that's why they came up with this ludicrous new'law'.

Clarification for the above post from 'itsPreznt', Diesel engines have become cleaner since 2010, not 2007...and they are not "pollution free" and since 2010, they are cleaner than before but certainly not pollution free.
@itsPreznt4 күн бұрын
@onthethrottle7104 clarification for you, indeed since at least 2007 when the originating pollution devices were introduced which were 'DPF' diesel particulate filters, i know because I owned one and I'm referring to commercial trucks here. The same chassis are used in class A motorhomes , usually just smaller engines and they still had the filter systems on them. As for 'pollution free', those filtering systems reduced the air particulate from 100% blowing all the black carbon into the air, which everyone hated diesels for down to the size of a postage stamp, so pretty much 'pollution free' I'd say. I can stand behind my current class A, which is the next generation pollution device of DEF - diesel emissions fluid, and breathe the exhaust, not intentionally of course, but on occasion have been close by when my partner is backing into a closed spot. So I think we're down to splitting hairs regarding 'pollution free'. They have helped enormously in the transportation industry.
@onthethrottle71044 күн бұрын
@@itsPreznt 2007 emissions mandates started with a very minor Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) mounted within the exhaust system of the vehicle only. In 2010 is when the full blown Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and the DPF started, where the EPA mandated that all Diesel engines had to, "key word" 'REDUCE' Nitrogen Oxide pollutants and other exhaust pollutants. Whether you agree or not, my point is, the emissions components on your Diesel engine, post diesel emissions requirements, do not clean "better than the air coming into the engine", as you claimed. To be clear, (no pun intended, haha) I am not in favor of EGR's DPF or urea type emission reduction systems at all, I'm simply just trying to "clear the air" pun intended, hehe. Enjoy your "clean diesel."

Forgive my ignorance, but I didn't think any RV manufacturer built the engine but purchased truck beds from Ford, Mercedes, etc, and those manufacturers will be meeting the zero emissions standards or they won't be selling anything in those states. I believe you're misunderstanding the changes in law. In 2025 California, Oregon, Washington, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts are set to have new diesel vehicles over 8500 GVWR banned unless the manufacturer produces enough EV's as credit. Gassers will still be sold and registered.
