We have an rv king in our MH. We are going down to a rv queen so we have room to easily make the bed. Right now it’s a real pain every morning.

Always use a finer blade to cut so your cut is smoother.

Add a support that is even and only covers the new mattress width. It should not be uneven under the mattress. Use good 2x4 supports at each end. The slide has your modified support on it. Making an even support just for the additional width is the right way to go.

We used a vinyl fence post as a support below the foot of the full queen.

Chipboard will not last. Humidity and weight on it, especially the edge of where you would sit while getting up, will break. How they make shelves and countertops with a laminate surface would help keep out humidity and provide a good solid surface. Use something like that to replace the entire piece that lifts up. Not sure if the original hinge would work. Maybe?

Yes, anything more than about a two inch overhang will flex and crack over time.

I think you’re going to be surprised how over a short time, that osb is going to transfer through the mattress and you’ll feel an anomaly when you lay down. Once possible, you should consider another way to create a completely even surface for the mattress to lay over, once you’re situated somewhere to fully invest the time.

Piano hinge all the way across, piece of plywood only the width of what you need. Attach the hints to the base not the top. Make sure”L” shaped leg supports that kick out. Kinda like how a wall table would work.

I had the same thought about the hinges and add a piano hinge to the wood to make a false door to hide the gummies!

Next time, put the cabinet piece upside down and make your measurement. If it doesn’t fit in the space, use a yardstick or something similar to extend the point of measurement.

We put cheap peel & stick floor tiles on the plywood platform. Helps the Mattress to slide and not get caught on the plywood.

I would use 2 aluminum stripes from Home Depot and cut your board to edge of bed and I would attach it to the left side so you can still open the bed for more support might want to add a small removable leg to it. Less weight. Just an idea.
