Yeah it's weird. The scry would have made sense if it was scry for more cards than is in deck. But it was the spawns and Exile mode. It could have just been "there's 120+ triggers going on the stack Imma gonna head out"

Separate comment for the actual video. Deck looked fun. Sucks that the opponent forced a draw from the software in round 1. But that is definitely just going to be a bad match up for you. I might cut those Fables for Stonecrusher Giant. Enemy One Rings, you Stomp a x/3 of yours and can then attack and deal damage.

I think I hate energy in Modern but Im really enjoying it in Legacy so far. Staff looks like an inspired upgrade and it might be narrow but I love harsh mentor in the side. Im trying to think what my favorite (not best) legacy decks are but energy might crack top 5 as it continues to develop. It feels like its still in that early stage of "take shell and slam some legacy all-stars in"

Hey Phil, whenever i see staff of the storycaller i always think about Idol of oblivion, ignoring its flavor text it does a very similar thing to staff without needing to spend the mana, which in a deck with as many W 1-drops as this one, i feel might be better positioned deploying an extra threat instead of drawing a card. Is the base-case for staff just that much better a 1W 1/1 that you can pay 1 to draw a card? is that much worth the investment of W T for the draw. interested to hear your thoughts. As i am writing this i also realize that this deck in particular makes its tokens on end-step, meaning you wouldn't even have a chance to use the card you draw even if it would save you mana. So probably not the substitution for this deck specifically but just curious about your thoughts. Idol also has the upside of not caring what kind of token, while Staff specifies creatures.

Idol only works if the token came into play that turn and never gets any in the bank.

⁠@@ZauzzieI think the idea is that idol gives you cards for less mana and slightly faster. Not banking up cards reduces the ceiling but drawing for a couple of turns with idol should be good enough most of time anyway The biggest problem with idol is that it doesn’t cantrip. It has to be comboed with your token producers or it’s dead which makes it much worse as top-end. Side note: the deck being primarily white makes the generic mana cost mostly irrelevant
