Gratuitous Space Battles - Gratuitous Hilarity

Initially, I had wondered if having an entire deployment field filled with the Imperial Weapons Platforms would be hilarious. It was funny, but not quite ROFL-esque, and definitely not very effective. Then through divine providence (accident) I found out I could stack them. This caused the fleet effectiveness to shoot through the roof, and thus the impending hilarity.
This is my fleet of 3600 operational strength versus a fleet of normal-diffculty AI with 24000 operational strength.
Also, this game is fantastic - you should get it!

Kinda reminds me of the space station in Bacta War. (One of the old Star Wars books - mounted with the targeting systems for several hundred proton torpedo launchers. In that case, it was just a bluff, but the scene is told from the attacker's point of view and they, of course, didn't know that.

@Kw1q51lv3r Really excellent question. This setup is really vulnerable to fighters, and shields are useless to fighters (in the bubble, which is always when stacked). And it is always best stacking defense instead of mixing. In normal fleets, I wouldn't recommend armor at all.

Did the same stacking glitch on Starcraft with the old Protoss sentry photon cannons. Worked like a charm.

@ThePixelChaos Yeah, I've heard some good stuff about Bandicam. Reason why I use (and love) Fraps is because when I first got it, the developer was very helpful in supporting the games I was playing (City of Heroes, for example). Got beta access, direct feedback, and constant updates to this day for the low, low price of $10. But in reality they're both about the same in terms of quality and resource consumption, but Bandicam's huge plus is the ability to customize the output file.

Can't do it anymore :(. Closest thing you can do is put them in a box formation and have them escort at minimum range center ship, which granted, works fairly well.

Been a while since I've had it installed, but the challenge should still exist. Should be able to find it - "Gratuitous Hilarity!" uid is "crazydeus". Last I saw, it had a meager 50% win rate. Hilarious, but not unbeatable. Heheh. If you do the challenge, you should record it and post as a reply so we can check out cool opposing tactics.

I agree, when I played, it was too easy to win any scenario with one specific fleet build. There's better (and more varied) tactical choices in his newer game (Gratuitous Tank Battles). I recommend it, especially if you are into tower defense.

Stacking was a bug from launch that has since been patched out, sadly. There may still be a way to do it, but I haven't tried to find it.

I use multiwarhead missiles myself. The things are brutal. Harder to stop and 33% more damage than cruiser missiles, with almost as much range.

Not really. The MnB dev team: TaleWorlds (a man and wife team) is based out of Turkey, while GSB was developed in the UK by Positech (one man company). I guess the link would be both are independent game developers who very much deserve cash thrown at them, heheh.
