Leonard befriended me when his son Adam was hospitalized at St Johns in Toronto, I worked there as a porter one summer in 1990, and was responsible for taking Adam to his daily therapy; met Leonard and everyday for a couple of weeks, he would take me to lunch, and after lunch would want to walk with me out behind the hospital ravine grounds, he would talk about my music and take with him my hand written songs, which I didn't think would like (country songs), but he told me he started out in a country band and loved the songs. He would also startle me with things that fascinated him, newspaper articles, religion, politics, willow trees? lol, and the thing that amazed me was that he was so famous, and yet he was giving me all this time, me a summer student porter; in short he saw beyond the class/ego. He seemed to be able to see richness in the everyday person. I me his sister, and other extended families who visited the hospital. I bought a cassette for him to sign, which he did, I still have it. For those weeks that I was with him, it seems surreal, I will never forget. One last thing Leonard recommended that I read Charles Bukowski, for inspiration, I did and it started me off writing short stories. Thank you for the Vlog Jordan, Bless you.

Youre welcome Jordan, you may find this interesting; I asked Leonard one day what his plans were for publishing anything new?, he responded back with, the publisher wanted Leonard to allow them to release a collective volume of all his writings he ever wrote in one package, and Leonard refused, so the published got tough and said that they wouldn't publish anything new unless Leonard agreed to the package (or anthology) of everything he wrote, but Leonard stuck to his stance.

I love your idea of neighbourhood life! I always enjoy old brick buildings like in this vlog. What a great job and tribute! Fun fact Jordan, you were minus 16 degrees yesterday and for periods of time where I live in Manitoba it can be minus 30 degrees with a windchill making it minus 40 degrees.

Hey Tanya I was thinking about how cold it was in Manitoba. Right now Windsor is at about -3 degrees C. Clear sky and no snow on the ground. I thought Jordan would be having an easier time with the cold coming from Ohio. But he's looking good!

Jordan thanks so much. This was a beautiful journey into the life of Leonard Cohen. Suzanne and Hallelujah are my favorites. The lyrics are beautiful poetry. The details of his life are interesting and give an insight into this talented mans spirit. Finally I understand the hidden meaning of Suzanne. You have such a talent for bringing a complete vision of your subject. What a wonderful insight into the life of Leonard Cohen. Been looking forward to watching this all day!

How awesome was he, as a well known artist, that he could meet folks where they were at like the homeless poet!! That alone speaks volumes of his character! Absolutely love the neighborhood where he lived and his house!! 😁 No mistaking that mural of him as being anyone else. Think the artist captured his intensity well. All the street art is fantastic!! Even the doodle on the pole!! Wearing slippers outdoors like his makes perfect sense to me very hassle free!

Really great vlog. I didn't know there was a large Portuguese neighborhood in Canada. I'm glad Leonard was so well loved there. He wrote great works of art. The smoked meat sandwich looked awesome. I'm glad you found those little Portuguese tarts. A friend of mine who is from Portugal told me that those are the first thing she has when she goes home to Portugal. She stops and gets one at the airport. LOL. I love the Portuguese people some of them are the sweetest people you can meet. Did you buy a pair of slippers like Leonard's? I would have. I know you're freezing to death there, but Thank You for sticking it out and going and vloging stuff for us to see. I like other lion hearts can't travel like you do and these vlogs mean everything to me. Gets me out of my world for a few minutes. I cant wait to see where you're going to take us tomorrow. you should definitely go visit arlington national cemetery and visit jfk’s grave also you may get the chance to witness the changing of the guard which is a short but symbolic ceremony it does not matter what time of year or day or weather there is always a person standing guard over the tomb of the unknowns fact each Sentinel of the 3rd infantry regiment aka the old guard does not wear rank insignia this is so that those guarding the tomb does not out rank the unknowns

I had sort of peripherally noticed his music..."Suzanne", etc. Then I watched a movie called "McCabe and Mrs Miller". Very dark movie, but his music was all through it. I love "Sisters Of Mercy"...and a new favorite, "Avalanche" (not in the movie). That particular song is done beautifully by Aimee Mann on HBO's "I'll Be Gone In The Dark" documentary. Also, some of his later shows featured The Webb Sisters, Hattie and Charley. They were the backup singers for Tom Petty's 40th Anniversary Tour.

Amazing vlog in tribute to an amazing human being. Leonard Cohen has been an inspiration to me for the better part of 25 years. I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert in Boston around 2010-2011. He played a 2+ hour show with only one break, no opening acts. That show remains a dear moment in my life. Thank you Jordan for your love of the worlds weird, wonderful, talented, obscure, and often forgotten.

I think you have possibly shown me more in this past year than I will see in my whole life. You are an old soul, Jordan, do you know that? I am 63yo and you, Jordan, are more much like me and your grandfather than you likely realize-or do you! Take care and don't wear slippers in Montreal. I love the music and words of Leonard Cohen. Very good vlog, Jordan. Visiting Montreal in January is like taking a big bite out of cold reality sandwich. Thanks for all the Leonard Cohen stories, now I won't feel bad about wearing my slippers outside my apt. I'm a fan of his music too, not a huge fan, but I do have his 2 greatest hits albums which are really a necessary addition to any "rock era" albums. He was both mordant and soothing at the same time.
