Watched that video with mixed emotions. Brings back the many rides and banter I had over those same roads with my best mate and cycling buddy. Sadly the sands of time are pouring that little bit faster and we rarely ride with each other these days. I’d struggle over those climbs now but it would be a none starter for my mate who although still rides, he does it sedately due to a heart problem. So the message is go ride those beautiful roads while you can and cherish the memories as you get older. Great videos ladies, thank you.

@ Thanks for the comment Juliet. He’s got an E bike and we had the pleasure of a couple of steady rides a few weeks ago when we met up in France for a few days. We used to ride together a lot in Yorkshire and did LEJOG back in the 90’s. So many great memories and a lifelong friendship that started through meeting as kids at the local cycling club. Keep up the great work on your channel, thank you.

I've watched your videos for years but never commented. But today I must. I've cycled the Yorkshire Dales and visited that massive railway bridge you show near the end of this video. I loved it there - spent several days but liked Dartmoor as well (ridden on a different trip over). I live in Texas but have a good friend who lives in Seaford, and we rode those places together as well as the Peak District - all provide fantastic cycling!!

I do all my cycling on my gravel bike as I can only afford one. Commuting, bike packing, keeping up with my road cycling club, hill climb competitions and triathlons! Would love a road bike too but it’s not a reality on a low income!
@nluisa2 ай бұрын
I do the same with mine. It's great! I also have a basic, but durable wheel set second hand to fit nice road slicks. It's much faster, durable and nicer on the road, and saves the knobs for the crucial terrain.
@MentalHealthJourney2 ай бұрын
@@nluisa This is what I'm considering - would that be worthwhile to invest in then?
@nluisa2 ай бұрын
@@MentalHealthJourney Yes, if you do a lot of road riding. The bike feels totally different and goes a lot faster. Off road tyres don't last long on the road either. A good set of aluminium wheels costs less than 150 second hand. I would get the same wheel brand, otherwise the hub disc rotor spacing might be different. And then you need to realign calipers for a wheel swap, which isn't great.

Disc brakes are by far superior to rim brakes for many reasons. I have one bike I use for everything. It’s a gravel bike with endurance road geometry. Handles well on or off the road. Unless you’re road racing, one by with 11, 12, or 13 speed is adequate. With an 11-42 cassette and a 40 tooth front chain ring it handles almost all situations. The 40x42 low gear is lower than most two by systems. I’m spun out at 30mph on the high gear. Gravel bikes are really the Swiss Army knives of bicycles. I have two sets of wheels, one for the road and one for gravel.

Only thing I am going to say : yes! You two should really fly away togheter and attempt one of those _ride across_ series of hers Katie; I would suggest an outlandish destination, Italy is exotic enough, maybe the southern region of Bavaria in Germany might do; certainly, riding across Switzerland would really be marvellous and mysterious too! Indeed, I can see why the Dales lend themselves to cycling, wide open, fierce and untamed, with little if any traffic and smoothly run pavement that twists and turns among the peaks and the valleys; A shout to freedom and bravery. No better feeling of dismounting your bikes and heading for a warm, cosy night after so much faff and labour. Privileged to see you two content and cheerful togheter ! 😁 😄 👏🤞 👋 = ]

Sometimes when you fit larger diameter more tooth cassettes, you may need a derailleur extender piece otherwise when in lowest gear ratio theres insufficient clerence for the upper derailleur idler sprocket 😊👍

I felt bad for you having electronic shifting issues but glad to see it on a video. While no Luddite, I wonder why electronic shifting even is needed aside from a marketing ploy? Please don't have someone tells me how great shifting is. Yeah, when it works. It still needs adjusting occasionally and if you switch wheels it will be off just like indexed set ups. Actually on my gravel bike with a a 1X, I have been running a friction bar end shifter. It does not care what wheels I have on the bike which I switch depending on the terrain. It is easier than changing tires. On my other more road / touring bike I have a mechanical 12 speed Campy but have a Renee Herse subcompact crank set to lower the gearing. Unlike Katie, I do like my disc brakes but there are mechanical versions of those too that will work great. No bleeding is ever needed. I may switch my gravel bike to mechanical brakes from the hybrids I have now. Once after leaving my bike hung up vertically when away, I almost crashed when I got on it as there was air in the line for the front brake. Function over form please especially if not living above a bike store or being way out in the country where the best riding will likely be.

Lovely countryside and two lovely women to narrate the trip. A few thoughts: I'd go with the rim brakes any day. The camera-filter guy reminds me of the Monty Python skit of the touring cyclist droning on about how he protects his cucumber sandwiches in case of a crash. Juliet; have you considered using a stick to mount the camera? Leonard M Lee has some useful tips on filming while riding. He's a cameraman by trade I think.

One of the nefarious limiting factors with rim brakes _not_ actually the brakes but, rather, the braking surface on _carbon_ rims-that's just a bad combination. With the right wheels, dual pivot rim brakes work great, even at Shimano 105 level.
