Gravely builds them like a tank but I have one of these and it will spin and dig a rut if you spit on the ground. The rear pizza cutter tires don't pull worth a crap. The front casters don't have bearings but plastic bushings and wear out in about a year. The tires I'm gonna fix today with some atv tires I have laying around. Still trying to source some bronze bushings the correct size to replace the plastic junk. Overall since the thing was given to me it's ok just has too many flaws. Once I get everything fixed it's going to the classifieds.

I have worked on one of these mowers and they are nice units. Put a new Xtreme clutch on it, very well made clutch. Also worked on slipping starter by coating bendix drive slide with rubber underbody coating. Worked great.

Sad story about the old man but we don't know all of the situation he could be in poor health and maybe shouldn't be mowing and the family is looking out for him and has his best interest at heart but who knows? LOL , I had to BAN my dad from the mower, I could not figure out WHY he kept asking me to get gas so often, then one day I was home when he was working in the yard, I saw him going around the house with the mower & cart behind & rake in it, figured he was going to rake, after hearing the mower running for a hour I looked out, the mower was on one side of the yard RUNNING, and he was on the opposite side raking LOL , miss that old guy even though he drove me freaking nuts !

Job well done. Yeah, maybe if you factor in the hours spent against the eventual selling price, perhaps you aren't going to make a lot on this job. But if you add back the fun you had doing it plus the satisfaction of intelligently figuring it all out ... huge profit.

If the ole dude that originally owned the tractor is still up to mowing grass, lend it back to him. Why is the Kolher engine you to off not so good? I switched engines on Ariens ZTR1742 a 17 BS, that was using as much oil as gas to mow my lawn, for a 20 hp Kolher engine like the one you took off the John Deere. Are these type Kolhers junk?

I have that Gravely model 1534 and mine bucks or jerks really bad at slow speed it does great a high speed ,I'm stumped .any ideas on what to look for? I like the mower but it's really hurts my back

Probably. The Kohler Command has a voltage regulator on it, so it can run the electric PTO clutch just fine.

Those oil drains are garbage,the one on my troy bilt leaked constantly so I put a standard plug in.I'm gonna get a siphon to change oil next time.

I obtained a L130, same complaint. The drive belt was poor. I replaced the drive belt, removed the transmission, drained all the old fluid, and replaced with new. Seem to fix the problem. If I recall, there is a magnet, you pull out of the trans where the plug recided. Google info on the repair. A lot of good tips. Good luck. The mower I repaired had over 500 hours on it.

I'm gonna steal the battery hold down fix. The factory one on these are junk and a crap poor design. Stupid rod bent around the battery with a hook on one side and you have to reach under to undo a wingnut on the other side to remove the battery.
