This is a privately owned mineral location that allows groups of 2+ to reserve permission to collect there and twice a year has free collecting events and rock swap. Donations recommended. For more info (at the time of this video) go here to learn more: www.exploregeo...
If you have a crew and want to hammer off tons of rock, you can share the load of carrying 8lb sledges, 4lb sledges, and chisels and pry bars etc. I would have found just as good stuff probably surface hunting through tailings, but skilled hounds can try to reach pockets with the heavier hand tools. Carrying my tools in a backpack and using a bucket for rocks was my best chance at the long walk. Also there are plenty of individual small rocks and boulders that you may want to split to reach the rutile or lazulite crystals.
You can find nice examples of many minerals here including turgite (rainbow colored irridescent goethite and hematite), fuchsite, and pyrophyllite as well as nice crystals of quartz, lazulite, kyanite, and rutile.
Thanks to Neil Carroll for some of the info, specifically about the fuchsite and a guy Adam who should be the guy featured in this video instead of me.
