I am planning to go and bringing my family as well. It's not that I need more to clean or to pay that much for a bucket ($300), but I have to see if I can do better at high-grading!

Can you give me info on finding any of these locations? I tried today but didn't have much luck.
@findingrocksdotcom64753 күн бұрын
There is a link in the description that you can use to map to the spot with your phone if you do GPS on google maps. From I-40 you take the New Castle Rd. Exit near Forest City. Go North on New Castle Rd and take a right on "409" after maybe a couple miles. After you get on 409 it might be 1/2 mile until you get to Crow Creek and the bridge over it. This is the spot.

Near the entrance is a giant pile of sand / rocks. This material was purchased. After hours, they pour buckets of that stuff in the creek for kids to find. No rock in that creek has been unturned. It is a play pen for kids.

Thanks for the video, my friend! That was a pretty deep hole!! @10:45 You could always hit that piece with a hand held grinder (with appropriate blade) or a wet/tile saw to trim off the excess rock.

Thanks, it's as deep as I felt comfortable. It's a good trick to make a rockhound bury themselves. Thanks for the tip. I just need an extension cord to bring it into a hole with me.

Thanks for this video, Scott! I am wondering if that works on other iridescent material? I have some from various locations, but none from Graves Mountain...I'm half tempted to try it.
@findingrocksdotcom6475Ай бұрын
I don't know enough about the cleaning reaction, but I think the reason why it works on Graves Mountain material is because some is coated in a thin layer of aluminum. I am guessing it won't work on what you have.

@findingrocksdotcom64755 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes it is great to have a place that shares up to date collecting info on many old sites and also finding new sites. I've had a really good time in the VIP club. There is some occasional friction, but it's usually out in the open and transparent for people to judge for themselves.
@diggingappalachia9545 ай бұрын
Yeah, I’ve been tossing around the idea of joining…. I guess a lot of people are just concerned about what used to be semi secret locations getting overrun, but from what I’ve seen any place they’ve put up so far seem okay & it is especially hard to find new locations in the upstate of sc, the national forest service has stopped even letting people pan for gold, the permit was free until recently. Great garnets though & it does seem worth it for the price, we pay to be in local rock clubs so I don’t see the difference, take care & good luck digging 👍✌️

I’ve gone twice now, and I always go in the creek. Wonderful on a hot summer day. Only need a bit of bug spray, trees provide pretty good shade. Would recommend some water shoes/boots because the water is very cold. I’ve had very good luck in the creek. The longer you work, the more you find.

Sifting is not a good way to find crystals. It’s best to just dig out the pile and hand sift through the loose dirt. The bigger ones will pop out. The tiny ones are a waste of time unless you are making jewelry. Never give up. A treasure is hiding in wait for you if you have patience to keep looking 👍

It's a new mine and the first rain happened the day before. You are right it wasn't $50 of amethyst that I found. I aim to find 3-4 times what I pay always. Every mine trip I've been on has been a gamble, most of them would count as an economic loss but a great adventure.

Thanks for the video! I’ll be coming down to Arkansas for the holidays and have some neat places of where to look around for stuff. The possible shark tooth… looks to be correct? I think if this was in North Central Arkansas, a species of shark that’s quite famous there. I hear the teeth are on the rarer side to find in the area though. As for my favorites of the video. I love those brachiopods. They looked huge compared to what I find locally
