Sorry, I said mile.. I meant set half mile record.
@davidburroughs70684 жыл бұрын
Hehe, thanks, noticed that, was gonna look it up and see what she really did, it's good to know. Running a four minute mile is a good achievement, and fast walking a half mile in two minutes is awesome.

Calling BS even on that half mile correction. Tom Bosworth, a British Olympic race walker, clocked a 5:31.08 mile to set the new world record for the mile. Any man walking less than 2 minutes in a half mile is just not possible, let alone a woman in the 1940's. Jarmila Kratochvílová set the women's World record in 1983 for the 800 meters (right at 1/2 mile) at 1:53.28, *and that's running!* ...not walking. Don't know if you got your data from "The View" but it sounds like it.

i have a hard time believing a 2 min mile. i coach track, and my fastest mile runner is 4:12. thats running at his best speed.

I'm a guy, and I played baseball when I was a kid. This movie came out when I was nine years old. I didn't start playing baseball until 94, and I didn't give it up until '01. I saw this movie after my playing days were over, and I couldn't help but be transported back to that old ball field while I was watching "A League Of Their Own." The late Penny Marshall did a great job of catching the splendor and pageantry of America's Favorite Pastime.

The very first woman drafted to play in this league was a woman named Claire (Schillace) Donahoe. She played from 1943-1946. She gave it up to get married and pursue her education. She ended up with a Masters degree in physical education. She and her husband relocated to the Washington DC area where she became a physical education teacher at a junior high. One of her students became my wife. Ms. Donahoe passed away in 1999. My wife died a few months ago. They’re both in heaven now.

I remember when the filming took place here in Evansville we all rushed out to see it. When we were on set they told us not to bother the actors during breaks in filming so Rosie Odonnel came up to my 8 year old daughter and asked her if she wanted an autograph. She talked to us for several minutes. I felt she was a class act

Hi Jordan. Nice video. I had the honour of friending Mary Bonnie Baker in the early 1970's. At the time Mary was managing a Local curling club. At the end of the evening I would sit with Mary and listen to her stories of the AAGPBL and all of her softball accomplidhments. One evening she had a photo album with hundres of pictures of her and the teams taken while she played baseball. Mary was georgeous in the day and she was always meticulously dressed. I thought the world of her. Mary is buried in my hometown of Regina Saskatchewan Canada. Thanks for making the video. It brought back fond memories of Mary.
