Alcohol is the catalyst here. Do you think he does this when sober? What he did was disgusting but alcohol played THE role in his actions. Any responsible cabin crew would've limited his alcohol much before he got so drunk.

Most of airlines train their crews to keep track and eventually limit the amount of alcohol that each passenger can have, but they should also defend them from unmotivated complaints by self-entitled spoiled passengers. The fear of losing a regular 1st class passenger turned into losing the airline own reputation.

The Airline/staff refused to change the seat of the elderly women, they could've let her change seats rather than making her sit, as there were empty seats.

The crew is equally to blame. A responsible crew would've stopped serving him alcohol a long time ago. If he wasn't inebriated to that extent, 100% he wouldn't have done that. I myself have witnessed many incidents where the crew have strictly enforced a limit of alcohol on certain individuals who were either drinking too much or potentially could cause trouble.

Alcohol gets more potent at altitude. The cabin altitude can vary between 6,000 to 8,000 feet depending on aircraft type. Therefore you are basically living at high altitude where the cabin humidity is low and the pressure is not high enough to force oxygen into the lungs. This diminishes VO2 Max capacity. Then you add alcohol into your system which will cause dehydration. You therefore end up with irrational behavior by individuals who can’t handle the combined effects - Shankar M therefore morphed into Shankar P Shankar M appears to be a small man which would make the effects of alcoholic beverages more potent since he doesn’t have the body mass to absorb and dilute the alcohol. Would there now be a “Shankar No Pee” class on Air India long haul flights?

Completely wrong focused news! Alcohol is served in international carriers for a long time, and people sometimes drink more than what they can handle. So focus on Alcohol is not right. Worse yet, this news seems to punish all people who fly Business class / First class as spoilt children. So, is the 72 year old lady a spoilt child? Too many mentions of Business Class and alcohol. I think the problem here is purely Airlines. I have travelled around the world innumerable number of times. I have always noticed that flight stewards/stewardesses observe and deny alcohol who appears inebriated. They refuse to serve them anymore. Why didn't Air India do that? The worst part that is not said in this case is: When the old lady was soiled, she was asked to change?? Change to Pajamas? What are you kidding? Then they make her sit on crew seat for 2 hours. Why didn't they shift her to First Class while 4 seats were empty? The entitled behavior was for the crew, not the passengers. I know that the flight staff often use the Business Class and First Class seats to take rest instead of crew hideouts. They simply didn't want to give that seat, because they felt entitled that they should use those seats. Gravitas: Please get your facts right and say the proper news and blame on right points, not like this!

Like you, I've flown hundreds of times in business class, and I've never seen an incident remotely like this. There's millions of people fly business class every month, but let's just pick one unprecedented incident and make a big deal of it.
