Anyone who knows colonial history including my friends here in India ,where India was under British Rule for 200 years or so and Kenya my country of birth should appreciate historically Canton now Hong Kong belonged to China and was taken over by British during the opium wars . Yes I agree when HK was handed back to China in 1997 the deal was HK to have self rule for 50 years from 1997 but independence was not part of the deal , Therefore , I support HK to have self rule for the remaining 22 years left of the arrangement and there after it belongs wholly to China or rather returned to China . Here in the UK , we have people from Kashmir , who want complete independence from both Pakistan and India but it will not happen as historically it belonged to Undivided India ( British India ) . The point I am trying to make is no country will give up part which historically belongs to them .
