The zero-gravity hallway fight scenes were achieved by using "...massive, rotating sets that twisted and turned and forced Gordon-Levitt to maneuver with utmost caution. Five-hundred crew-members were involved in the scene, which took a full three weeks to complete." The sets were built in a London airplane hangar, including a horizontal hallway that rotated 360 degrees, a vertical one and a set with steel trolleys to which the actors were attached by wires (later erased using visual effects).

Well I think this is really awesome and in the comments everyone has been praised enough, but I would like to give a special shout-out to the extra that JGL (Arthur) fought in the scene as I think his special effort has been totally forgotten. Like JGL, he underwent the same training and put in the same effort inside that spinning corridor and all in all his contribution in making that scene so great cannot be forgotten. So kudos to whoever you are.

@5nefarious
@5nefarious 9 жыл бұрын
Well, CGI is still really effective if you don't have the money to create an entire world. I think what you're sick of is _bad_ CGI; giving the artists less CGI to do would probably improve the quality of the CGI as a whole.
@grahamvandyke
@grahamvandyke 9 жыл бұрын
aismartie14 That's very true. The problem I have with CGI as a whole now is the fact that it's so overused to the point where half of all action scenes now are digitally created. The human eye can tell very easily when something isn't real, which makes these scenes so mindblowingly amazing to watch.

aismartie14 I think CGI is most effective when it's not overused. Like any tool, it can be overused, and when you see it constantly, it can take you out of the experience...I find for me, it's especially noticeable when CGI is used for whole environments, rather than just some effects and enhancements. No matter how good the graphics, the eye can tell it's not physically real. It has to be subtle, otherwise I get tired of it, especially when it's used in 90% of movies today. My 2 cents, anyway.
@DarthVader-ib7tl
@DarthVader-ib7tl 9 жыл бұрын
I remember the when movies used to look real and didn't have to rely on special effects. Movies like back to the future used it in scenes like the time travelling scenes, etc. You know, pretty sparingly. That's why I loved the original trilogy of Star Wars, and Indiana Jones, especially the face melting scene, they used wax. If it was made today, it would be a fake looking cgi piece of crap.

That's amazing how they did this scene. Not really a big fan of CGI it's been over used for everything in movies; live action special effects has more a realness than CGI. Sometimes the best special effects is using the mind's perception that creates an optical illusion.

You don’t see risky movies that much anymore. Making a high budget movie with an original idea (and isn’t affiliated with a franchise or the superhero genre) is a lot more rare today. Today, such concepts are considered to be “risky” as the possibility of the movie being a flop is higher (because general audiences aren’t familiar with the new idea like they are with other popular franchises). Inception ended up being a big success (critical and financially) and was the the 4th highest grossing movie of 2010 :)
