I honestly have a lot of respect and appreciation for Nolan on his stance of staying much more loyal to practicals instead of relying too much on CGI and digitals. One of the few people who still do that. The only CGI that was used was digitally getting rid of the wire work in the anti-gravity shots.

That's amazing how they did this scene. Not really a big fan of CGI it's been over used for everything in movies; live action special effects has more a realness than CGI. Sometimes the best special effects is using the mind's perception that creates an optical illusion.

@5nefarious10 жыл бұрын
Well, CGI is still really effective if you don't have the money to create an entire world. I think what you're sick of is _bad_ CGI; giving the artists less CGI to do would probably improve the quality of the CGI as a whole.
@grahamvandyke10 жыл бұрын
aismartie14 That's very true. The problem I have with CGI as a whole now is the fact that it's so overused to the point where half of all action scenes now are digitally created. The human eye can tell very easily when something isn't real, which makes these scenes so mindblowingly amazing to watch.
@DarthVader-ib7tl10 жыл бұрын
I agree!
@ErizotDread10 жыл бұрын
aismartie14 I think CGI is most effective when it's not overused. Like any tool, it can be overused, and when you see it constantly, it can take you out of the experience...I find for me, it's especially noticeable when CGI is used for whole environments, rather than just some effects and enhancements. No matter how good the graphics, the eye can tell it's not physically real. It has to be subtle, otherwise I get tired of it, especially when it's used in 90% of movies today. My 2 cents, anyway.
@DarthVader-ib7tl10 жыл бұрын
I remember the when movies used to look real and didn't have to rely on special effects. Movies like back to the future used it in scenes like the time travelling scenes, etc. You know, pretty sparingly. That's why I loved the original trilogy of Star Wars, and Indiana Jones, especially the face melting scene, they used wax. If it was made today, it would be a fake looking cgi piece of crap.

Is it important to do all this in camera? I don't think so, and the 99% of audience watching the movie once probably won't even realize (I didn't). But it's just so cool having a director who want's to do it just because it can be done. When you have a director like that, the action just has more *weight* to it, whether you realize how it was done or not. If you just do CGI, it's difficult to keep it tasteful, it's difficult to make the actors react properly to your CGI environment when they have a motion rig strapped to them and it's hard not to overdo it. Doing it in for real just makes me appraciate the director and the crew more and it's a good marketing for them.
