The Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 are limited-production sports cars from the renowned Italian manufacturer Ferrari, introduced in 2018 for the 2019 model year. These exceptional cars kick off Ferrari's new "Icona" lineup, designed to create exclusive models inspired by classic Ferrari designs. The Monza SP1 and SP2 pay homage to legendary models like the 750 Monza, 250 Testarossa, and 166 MM. The SP1 refers to the single-seat version, while the SP2 offers two seats. Only 499 units were produced, with a price starting at €1.58 million before options.
Both models boast impressive specs, with Ferrari claiming a 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) acceleration time of 2.9 seconds, and a 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) time of just 7.9 seconds. The top speed exceeds 299 km/h (186 mph), showcasing Ferrari's signature high-performance engineering.
Unfortunately, for buyers in the US, these cars are not street legal. Due to the absence of a windshield, along with other regulatory factors, the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 do not meet safety standards in the United States. However, they are fully road-ready in Europe, and Ferrari plans to release more limited-edition models in its Icona series.
Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 Specs
Both the Monza SP1 and SP2 are powered by a refined version of Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine (F140 GA), which is also found in the Ferrari 812 Superfast. This engine generates 799 hp (810 PS) at 8,500 rpm, along with 719 N⋅m (530 lbf⋅ft) of torque at 7,000 rpm. The engine's tuning gives it 10 hp more than the standard 812 model, making the SP1 and SP2 among the most powerful street-legal V12 Ferraris at the time of their release. The Monza SP1 weighs 1,500 kg (3,306 lb), while the SP2 is slightly heavier at 1,520 kg (3,351 lb) due to its additional seat.
The SP1 features a single seat and a driver's position that’s offset to one side, while the SP2 adds a second seat, with a central divider separating the occupants. Both cars are equipped with scissor-style doors and use Ferrari’s innovative "Virtual Windshield", which channels airflow away from the driver.
Design and Features
The Monza SP1 and SP2 stand out with their sleek, low-slung carbon fiber speedster bodywork, evoking Ferrari’s classic post-war race cars like the 166 MM, 250 Testarossa, and 750 Monza. Their design fuses traditional Ferrari aesthetics with modern technology, making them both high-performance machines and collectible works of art.
Despite their high cost, which started at €1.58 million as the initial MSRP, the exclusivity and craftsmanship of these vehicles make them a dream for automotive enthusiasts. The Monza SP1 and SP2 exemplify Ferrari’s ability to combine history, performance, and luxury in a car that delivers both speed and beauty.
While no longer available as new, the Monza SP1 and SP2 are destined to remain legendary in Ferrari's lineup, and collectors can still find them through exclusive channels. With more models in the Icona series planned, Ferrari enthusiasts can look forward to more groundbreaking releases inspired by the brand’s rich history.
