This was so interesting. Thanks for posting this video. I am binge watching other silver sister videos trying to get the courage to let my natural white/grey grow through. I started going grey at 30 and have been dyeing my hair now for nearly 30 years and I'm sick of it, hence watching lots of silver sisters videos like yours to inspire me to go for it and I am nearly there. I have decided to get a wig for the awful growing out period. I ordered a cheap short choppy style grey wig off Amazon just to see what I would look like if I went for it and had a shorter hairstyle to speed up the process, as currently due to Covid and lockdown, my hair is way longer than I am happy with for my age. I was pleasantly surprised to see the short greg wig actually looked quite nice on me not awful as I'd been expecting so I am now trying to find a better quality slightly longer similar wig for the transitioning time or the days when the white horizontal line gets on my nerves, so I don't cave in and start dyeing it again. Black ladies have been wearing gorgeous fashion wigs for years, so why can't us white ladies do the same, even if only temporarily until our true natural hair comes through. That way we can hopefully avoid the stares and unhelpful comments from everyone and emerge as the beautiful silver sisters we should be. I love your ombre hair and think it looks beautiful. What I have noticed in every video I have watched is how healthy and vibrant the ladies hair is and I don't actually think it is aging at all. It's more like a fashion statement for you younger ones, as it looks like you deliberately chose a grey colour and it looks so freeing and individual as kpposed to seeing people with hair way too dark for their complexion which ironically ends up looking like a wig IMO. Am definitely going to go for it as I should have dyed my hair about 6 weeks ago so am already sprouting a nice white stripe at my parting. Being in lockdown is a great time to start as I'm not going out much so only people in video calls will get to see my transition and I might just wear my wig and pretend I've cut my hair and those who do not already know me will be none the wiser.

After 4 months, I'm starting to get over the people-are-looking-at-my-grey-hair-growing-out phobia and just moving on. I'm not only the boss, but I'm the very public face of my org. In reality, everyone actually IS looking at my two-tone head! LOL. But I'm still moving on. It's maddening that I have to allocate any brain space to my hair color. This would be an issue for zero percent of my male colleagues.

The thing is its a much quicker process for men as their hair tends to be short,so there isnt the issue of growing a tideline out. Mine will take 3 or 4 years as its waistlength and I dont want or see a reason to cut it. At some point I will have a grey head with a blond bun which will look "interesting"!

@@pheart2381 , My husband is about 80% gray and no one ever commented on his, I stopped dying for 4 months and everyone was commenting. My mom and sister actually got mad when I "chickened out" and re-dyed months ago. I'm back to 3 months without dye and will be sticking to it this time, if I feel like chickening out again I'll just call my mom and she'll talk me out of it. 😂

I'm a little over 1 yr inand I'm embracing the 2 tone hair. I use to highlight my hair (a partial-top layers only) a golden brown. So when my grays came in, the cool vs warm tones clash bothered me. So I bought some root touch up dye. I believe it was demi . And I only dabbed around my demarcation line to break it up so I looks like an ombre. Trying to not get too much on the gray but a little was inevitable. Then I dabbed the rest along the length of my hair wherever I saw the golden brassy highlights. I let that sit for 20 minutes or so. I chose a color that was the same darkness as my natural dark brown hair, but I chose an ashy color to cool down the warmth. It worked. I probably set back my transition about 3 months but it was worth it . And yes....I'm obsessed with my hair too. Checking it everytime I go to the bathroom.

That is what I did, dyed my blond hair more of an ashy blonde to make the contrast softer.

Hi, and thank you for this upload. I started my transition a few months ago. I have very long dark brown hair I'd been dying for 50 years. I don't want to go the color remover/bleach route either simply because I've worked really hard, since I stopped dying it, to get it as healthy as possible. No more dying and no more sulphate shampoos. One thing my brother said prior to me going down this path was something that kept me from heading in the "root cover-ups" direction. He said, "people are used to seeing you a certain way." So perhaps if I just let it grow out then people can get used to it as it progresses. Otherwise, if I kept it covered up with hats/scarves or temporary tints, and then all of a sudden made a big reveal that could be rather shocking. I'm hoping this way it won't be such a big deal to others. Time will tell.

Hi Deerhaven! I really like your plan! I hid my hair from everybody (I lived about 10 hrs from family) for months. It definitely was a huge shock when I revealed my hair color for the first time and it took some time for some of them to get used to my hair. Please keep me updated and let me know how it goes. Enjoy the journey!!

I decided that my medium brown hair is much too dark for my age (66). I'm also tired of dyeing the gray roots every 3 weeks. I'm going to use a color remover (Color Fix) this weekend and get as much of the brown out as possible. I'll see what is left behind and then decide where to go from there. I also might just remove the color from the top portion of my hair and let the rest grow out naturally. BTW-Your hair looks beautiful.

Did the Natural Instincts work? I wish the semi or demi had worked on my hair-it would have made my transition easier. The 3rd month is when it gets a little hard because our hair is at that awkward stage where it's too long to cover but still too short to look like we are purposely allowing our gray to grow out naturally. I watched this artist hair guy whom mention the powders and sprays will goop up if the gray is to much which guess it will happen, I got powders I used between dyes it work yet just a tad and it does get in the hair which I did not mind being it made it look thicker, oh my gosh, I just decided enough is enough, so invested in hair care product like Phyto which on my head now, figure just keep it nice and not frizzy and fly away, in all my 65 yr dying blue black at 16-20's then dark browns later, till now, and the mess the clean up and as soon as you wash for face with fancy face washes it takes away the dye around your face, every time, so it is dye and start powders day 5, I just stumble on this silver stuff when looking at sisterwifes delusion never married heck perhaps I can be number 7. So I said you know it is time. So thanks for this clip being I am just starting out and I guess the low light high light don't work with dark dye, good then no more processing that kills your hair. There are cool turbans on carol wright for 4.99 think I will get all 3 colors ;) Hugs to all

Hello Deborah! When I started using the spray, I held the spray bottle too close to my hair and pressed the spray button too hard so the spray came out thick and heavy. It took a few tries but I learned really quickly to press lightly and to hold the bottle further away from my head. I have a friend who used the powder and loved it. It's really great that there's so many options to choose from. Thank you so much for watching!
