I’ve just now heard about this today on KZbin. I’ve just started hiking and wanted something I could use on a daily basis if necessary. As we have seen what has happened in Texas after the winter storm of February 2021. This could be used to clean water in urban neighborhoods. My girlfriend got sick using the straw in a creek sadly. I refused to do it thank goodness. Keep up the great job of educating the people.

One of the reasons I like this unit is that it's a water purifier, not just a filter. Perfect for emergencies. I recommend the larger size.

I love the MSR trailshot. It doesn’t totally purify water, but it is fast and limits the possibility of cross contamination about as much as any system out there can while being pretty light. I’m one of those people who loads up my hydration bladder before I head out, so I rarely get to use it. Thanks for taking the time to make this!

The MSR is a great filter and is so light it's a joy to carry. I just like the peace of mind a purifier gives me over a filter. Stay well.

I started deploying these (older Grayl) bottles in my GO/Emergency bags. I even keep one at work with the travel filter. But since they are plastic, you are restricted to the filter (no boiling or putting near a fire). I just ordered a Mizu 360. Cost is a less (got mine for $55) but filters run about the same and have almost the same life. Except Mizu claims the filters do not expire unlike Grayl's 10 year shelf life. The reason I thought I'd move to the Mizu's was simple. They are STAINLESS STEEL therefore, you can boil water if needed. I rather not have to carry a separate stainless cup/cookware for water if I can use the cup. Grayl use to have a stainless bottle but they no longer produce it, that i can find. Nice video and thanks for the reviews.

The first grayl has the same cross contamination issue as you mentioned with the sawyer mini... if your hands aren't clean when pushing the filter and inner container down you can get the same bacteria in the already filtered water... that is why I ordered the geopress, it does add a extra protection from users error

Thank you for that very good review. It's a well thought out product. I've complained long and hard about "bugs" only filters, and most companies put most of their effort into them even though many people trek the outdoors in urban areas. From a preparedness standpoint most of us will be dealing with urban challenges.

Can you make a video on how you clean the Grayl after use?
@weekendwanderer55144 жыл бұрын
There's really nothing to it. Just rinse the parts under cold tap water and let air dry. When it doesn't let you press down anymore it's time for a new filter element which just screws on. Easy peasy.

Great informational video! Thank you so much! I travel 3 months a year in developing countries. I would like to switch from bottled water to drinking the local tap water. Do you think it is safe to boil water (when possible) and then use this Geopress water purifier filter to remove any heavy metals or remaining viruses/bacteria? I'm concerned these are good for a few weeks but not ideal for long term use when filtering unsafe local tap water. I understand I'll have to change the filters and more than likely won't get sick. But more concerned on the impact to my long term health.. Love to hear your opinion? Peter
@weekendwanderer55145 жыл бұрын
Peter, thank you for watching and commenting! I think your idea of boiling then purifying is a good one. Just make sure the water has thoroughly cooled back to room temperature before running it through the Grayl (or any filter/purifier) or you will ruin it. If you're going someplace where the water is really bad bring another filter element with you just in case it clogs. I replace mine annually just to be on the safe side but the water is not too bad where I live. For you, I would err on the side of caution. Happy trails. !

@Weekend Wanderer do you think this one is better then the go berkey wich i don't see in the video but i'm sure you know witch i'm talking a bout
@weekendwanderer55144 жыл бұрын
The Berkey Sport is an excellent purifier but for me it has 2 limitations: the bottle itself is very small and you need to suck the water out through the straw that's integrated into the cap. That makes it less convenient to share water or use it for other purposes.
@radydragoon4 жыл бұрын
@@weekendwanderer5514 i think I didn't understand me I mean the berkey go the silver one
@weekendwanderer55144 жыл бұрын
Oh sorry. I own both and rate them both highly, but they have different uses. The Grayl is a portable purifier and the Berkey is a gravity-fed tabletop design for larger quantities. Depending on what your needs are you can’t go wrong with either.
@radydragoon4 жыл бұрын
@@weekendwanderer5514 well I will use it for travel and go to work so that's are my need so what do you think ? And an other important thing is the price also so let me please

I’ve been using these purifiers for nearly 2 years now and have yet to have a clog. If the water is really brackish or muddy you can always pre-filter through a bandanna.

Question: How do I store it after using for a vacation? We went to a month long vacation in Asia and I used it for my whole family. Now I don’t use it anymore until the next vacation. Will the filter get damaged or get molds inside since it got wet?

I usually push some chlorinated tap water through it and then let it air dry. Haven't had any problems with mold yet.
