Using a bandana to keep out the floaties as a pre filter, works good. Also helps the filter last longer.

Great review, Bryan! I love these Grayl bottles and I keep one in my Jeep and one at home. Even though our tap water is "clean" I still use the Grayl to purify the water for taste purposes, water for our Mr. Coffee and any food products that require water for cooking or baking. For example, I made a chocolate cake last night and the mix required one cup of water. I used the Grayl to acquire that one cup. The cake came out moist and delicious. Lately, I've been saving pack weight to my camp site by taking an empty Grayl and one 500ml plastic bottle of Smart Water then use the Grayl to purify any additional water needed. I've done a taste test in my backyard Hobo Camp after acquiring water from the nearby James River, tap water from the kitchen sink and water from the garden hose (without allowing the contents in the hose to clear first). I used a Sawyer Mini, a Katadyn Befree, a Vapur and the Grayl to filter 500ml of each water source. The water purified by the Grayl produced the best tasting water. The others tasted "clean" but still had an element of taste that made me want to add a flavored electrolyte to it. As an Air Force IDMT, one of my job tasks was to check the water source for our radar sites and military sites on foreign (NATO) bases. At one of our installations I discovered that jet fuel was being dumped near our water source. After submitting test results our command communicated with the foreign base commander and the fuel dumping process was put to a halt. Water, filtered and purified, is vital to our bodies and never take for granted what appears to be clean water that it should be consumable.

Thanks for sharing, nice review. Recently, I bought the Grayl Geopress and I'm really happy with it! Easy handling and clean water ... just perfect! :)

Odd that you put this video up. The last two days I've been trying to figure out what to send with my sister in law when she gets deployed. I'm going to send her with my grayl.

The Grayl is great. I have three (two GeoPresses and one UltraPress). To extend the life of the filter, it is advisable to pre-filter the water with a fine cloth or perhaps a coffee filter.

Use mine every day even for tap water. Makes it taste much better. Have used it to purify flowing river water and stagnant pond water. Works great but taking the first sip from it after filling with scummy green muck is a bit of an act of faith lol.

You rested the filter on the dirt! I would definitely try to float a bandana over opening to keep out particulates. And always clean exposed edges with napkin dipped in white vinegar to sterilize.

Fabulous video, will definitely be getting myself one of these. Would love to see you do knife reviews out in the woods as well as apposed to the backyard if your time allows. Think it would be a great refresh for the channel 2021.

Ive had one for over a year and like it a lot. One shortcoming I found on a CO elk hunt was the trace amount of unfiltered water freezes pretty quickly making the two half’s impossible to separate. I guess the solution is to be more vigilant on drying out the container section in cold weather.

Don’t forget, any filter in unusable in the event that it freezes. The ice will crack the filter, allowing the bacteria and viruses to slip through.

I recently bought the Grayl GeoPress and like it. I've carried a way to purify water since I got sick on bad water in a remote area of Paraguay. I was so ill that I became delirious for 3 days. Bad water can become a life threatening experience very quickly.

I still have my replacement filter for the Ariix Puritii that's sealed up for emergencies. I wonder if it still compares. I still use by HydroBlue in the bush. Definitely thinking about getting one these though.

Hello. If we put tap water directly into the bottle through the cap without having to use the filter, the filter is not used and it does not wear it out?

That sounds right but I recommend you each out to the manufacturer just to be sure, not some dude on KZbin ;-)
