Eesh… I’m with you that the medicine route doesn’t sit quite right. If it was me I’d pull the rams out until December and hope for the best. Grazing school was awesome! It was so great to get to know you better, pick your brain on a bunch of ideas, and move a bunch of cows and fence while we’re at it.

Sounds like a good weekend. One day I'll meet Greg. I would pull those rams out and lamb out those early ewes. You'll be able to see them back up and then sort them out.

@french-canadianfarmer5049 that's where we ended going. Just gonna reset and hold tight

Consider installing Barn Owl and Screech Owl nest boxes. Owls eat rodents that host ticks, attract and feed Bobcats, Coyotes and Pit Vipers.

Get the rams out as soon as possible, whatever will be in lamb will be in lamb. It might only be a small few ewes that are in lamb

So Greg Judy said you would regret that Dorper ram? Well what does he suggest to improve carcass quality? Terminal sires are great for making better lambs with katahdin ewes. There is a picture somewhere here on the net of a katahdin, dorper, and texel on the rail side by side... that pic pretty well speaks for itself. Have a good one.

@alanwesterfield4254 he shared his experiences, that they don't fare well with no - input style. He agreed the carcass is nice, but they require more hand holding

@alanwesterfield4254 I would also add, that aside from the size of leg of lamb, my katahdin rams are bigger

@@TheBurkelFarm I also share that experience. I would have full dorpers if I could have made them work. Tried it. Wasn't worth it.... culled prob well over 100 ewes that I had kept because my climate is so hot and humid the parasites just made it not worth it. I do think you will like the hybrid vigor from that cross lamb tho. At one time I sold into a program and I was paid hanging wt. That is when you see the difference. I don't remember the numbers but the percentage was nearly always way higher with a cross lamb.
