Just buy one and LIVE the dream. I got my 87 Carrera 25 years ago for under $20k and now it's worth about 80-100k. I still prefer the handling and drivability of my 944 turbo, but not the maintenance (timing belts) so much.. No, I'm not some rich guy that has a lot of money to buy toys. I found good deals on them and I'm a mechanic that can do all the maintenance and repairs myself. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to afford them, that is if I had to pay someone for repairs and maintenance.

nice. beautiful engineering back then. the alloy carrier of the disc allowed even better heat dissipation and a lower rotational mass. every kid knew, that the porsche brakes are good, but your video shows how nice the details were thought through. oh and thanks for the tips on brake lines - it encourages me to do them the next time by myself

Nice simple tools for (double) flaring and bending the brake lines. For anyone attempting to do this, just remember to put the nut on and keep it at the end before you bend the line.

A point to mention, for anyone making their lines is that handheld flare tools are either SAE or DIN - which relates to the type of flare that is created. DIN is required for Porsche and other European cars. (SAE for US and Far East). Yes, you know how I learnt this 😅! Colin.

Couple of questions/remarks: a) so would you recommend silicone brake fluid then? b) I think there are better and also cheap bending tools for the brake lines, your lines look a bit "flat" where bent c) the best "hobby" brake bleeding system I used so far was "eezibleed" which uses the tire pressure. I've seen a few guys do the brake pipe flaring with power tool rather than a hand cranked socket. They said that the smooth, constant and straight pressure applied to the tip of the flaring tool that does the work by the gun is superior to the possibly wonky winding when done by hand. Not tried this myself though.

I think that’s true, but on the other hand, the fluid dynamics in the tube are not really harmed by a slight squeeze.

The fiber optic wand makes an appearance. I bought one a couple of years ago for $25 on Amazon-perhaps /probably not as nice as yours but I use it for inspecting cars during a PPI or when I[m selling a car to verify the condition of the inner door or the rocker panels. It's an essential tool at my place

Great work and video. Have you had any issues with the brake lights not working after bleeding the brake fluid? I did on my 1984 carrera. I had a shop replace the 2 (I think there are 2) brake light switches on the master cylinder and all is now well. I read that loosening the brake light switches and bleeding them could possibly also rectify the non brake light operation issue.

If it lost pressure it means that at some point brake fluid has escaped the system. Could be anywhere, but traces of the brake fluid will mark the spot where it happened.

Is it too much asked if you could list the brands of the material you are using ? I would just buy the same stuff you have, to bend the line, to pressurize the system; etc......why would I search the internet for hours and then buy the wrong stuff, if I see that you are using it successfully ? you can make publicity if you are happy with the tools you use...perfectly happy with that...

I was shown to leave just detectable play in these wheel bearing types with the wheel on, top and bottom, just the barest rock detectable. Too tight and the bearings fail prematurely. I haven’t seen them ‘preloaded’ before. 🤷

Agreed. The weight of the car removes the final bit of play. I didn’t preload them really, but removed all play and then went back 1/16 turn.

@@GreasyFingers perfect, it’s a bit of a learnt art to slightly over tighten then back off, takes a couple of ‘rocks’ back and forth to settle the bearings and then get the free play right. Too tight and the roller bearings skid on the races, too loose and they can knock and cause hammering damage to the races. Hopefully you don’t mind the comments, they are as much for your viewers as you and don’t wish to teach you to suck eggs… you obviously have a lot of skill and time served 👍
