All the faceless guys who caused the 2008 financial crisis and nearly brought down the world economy, the oil tycoons who lied about climate change for 30 years, the Jeff Bezos who pay their employees shit money and build rockets, the Mitch McConnells who take Russian bribes and block basic legislation...and...do I even need to say his name?

Stussy lives way beyond his means. He wants people to know he is rich. His name is above the company door. Varga is right, whether the mongol hordes are the poor in revolution or the government taxing the rich to appease. Stussy has done nothing to protect himself and will be one of those targeted in the shakeup. The likes of varga know the inevitable course that history will take and will make himself invisible. He will use his wealth astutely to buy off the people he needs to weather out the storm. Varga is giving stussy a very wise lesson in history here. Stussy is rich, but he's not that rich that he is in the 1% that will be untouched.
@lewiskazinsky73343 жыл бұрын
Two years late, but part of me thinks that it’s a load of horseshit. Varga gets what he wants by infiltrating people’s lives before isolating them so that they become dependent on him, just like Stussy did. He uses speeches like this to instil paranoia against an enemy that isn’t there, talking about a vague societal shakeup that’s definitely coming but not quite here yet. I don’t think Varga’s wealth is in his untouched assets, it’s in his ability to compulsively manipulate everyone he meets, which is shown by how weak he is when he loses control over a situation (the warehouse shootout). Like Mike Milligan, I think he was high on his own ego, and tricked himself into believing his trickery. That’s why I don’t think he walked away at the end of the season - he was betrayed by advancing technology, had nobody in the cell who would fall for his monologue, and seemed quite rattled when Gloria mentioned prison. Varga’s power only works on greedy idiots who are afraid of losing material wealth.
@s.g.75722 жыл бұрын
Agree with Lewis. Varga is extremely paranoid and repeatedly talks about conspiracy theories. He even says so here, and also clearly shows that he's interested in money for no reason other than he likes having money. He's the logical end result of capitalism, a creepy parasite that is motivated only by the accumulation of wealth.

Did Emmet ever have a chance here? I mean if he cut Sy loose from the beginning, paid his brother off, and pursued this criminal enterprise fully with Mr. Varga would he have been successful in becoming a billionaire with underworld affiliates? Or was he always going to be the patsy that took the fall while Mr. Varga and Narwahl siphoned off his cash and reputation. It’s interesting to study the main evil forces in the 3 seasons of Fargo and the players that attach themselves to evil. For example: 1.) season 1 Lorne Malvo and Lester - Lester tries to solicit favors and learn from evil. He is taken out. 2.) Season 2 Kansas City and Gerhardts - The Gerhardt family tries to fight evil and they get taken out. 3.) Season 3 V.M. Varga and Emmett - Emmet tries to do business and profit off evil and he is taken out The problem every season was anytime an underworld or legitimate figure attempted to deal with larger evil forces they always took a half assed attempt and that was their downfall. Would it have been different if Lester killed Sam Hess himself, Grandma Gerhardt listened to Dodd, and Emmet took the lead on his criminal dealings. All players involved reluctantly got involved with taking on evil
@dandavis83004 жыл бұрын

I find him a lot more realistic and close to how the corrupt bastards in Washington act and what their motivations are. They are driven not by psychopathy but disgust in everything and a willingness to do any amount of harm for their own gain.
