Year 3 has so much depth. Fargo dialed it back on the blood bath front but the subtle themes in the season make scenes like this so horrifying. The average guy estimates himself to be 4000% more effective in a fight than he actually is. Sy is all of us average Joes; we talk tough until that bigger fish comes along

This scene and the scene about mongol hordes to me is where season 3 shows how Varga is a different breed of wolf then Hanzee or Malvo that evil doesn’t just have to be a sociopath with a kill streak, but something far more insidious and undermining. Varga himself is a not a man of violence, he has others be violent for him, however, he breeds a perversion and corruption of the truth and reality, he intimidates through manipulation and cruelty, he controls and dominates conversation and thought with bullshit and misdirection. The wolf in sheeps clothing who charms his way inside before he devours you from within.
