I’m new to playing the guitar and I love it. My husband is a pro and playing since he was 14. He’s 57. I want to play with him and I’m doing really well. What I appreciate is how you break everything down and make it all come together. Thank you.

The only thing I wish you did on the song book was tell if a capo was used and which fret. Still love it, God bless.

These are the exact 4 chords I first ever learned in a song. Keeping those 3rd and 4th fingers planted made things so much easier. It was We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. I still use a cadd9 a lot if there's a change to a G, and back to the C. The second song was Mine by Taylor Swift aswell, same chords just different strumming patterns throughout. Still a simple song but I felt like a proper guitarist when I could play a full song with not just ddddu. My other favourite technique like this is with Am, C, Gsus and Fmaj7, the same principle, keeping the 1st finger down and just moving either one or two fingers to make the other chords. I'm practicing barre chords now 😭. Love that "when you WEAR nothing at all" 😂

I'm so glad you said that about strumming being hard at first. I've always thought I had a great sense of rhythm and I have but when I first started playing I found it really hard to keep the rhythm going while singing the melody, (that was always hilariously awkward at first whenever my tutor had to say melody with it being my name lol). I thought it'd be my fret hand that would be the hardest part and I'm some ways it is but strumming and singing definitely isn't as easy or natural as it looks. I can do it now but sometimes a tricky pattern can throw me off or if I just start freestyling and doing whatever I can get lost in the strumming and it doesn't line up properly with the chord change. I've got some bad habits to drop, my hand always tries to go dduudu and that works well for most songs but not all. Having said all that, strumming is way easier than picking, I can't do it to save my life and if I do manage I certainly can't sing at the same time. Luckily I like to strum and take some tension out on the guitar, I'm surprised I haven't snapped way more strings tbh. God bless my next door neighbour, he's so kind and says he rarely hears me but he has to, I can hear him. Just wait til I get my new electric guitar 😂

My suggestion to devoted guitar learners. You might be hopping video to video trying to truly learn. Hop from year to year and lesson to lesson. Ya gotta really know the chords but keep hopping til you get it. I tried this 1 n it was tricky to me a year ago and Now!!! Some are easier because I hopped teachers, and songs...but stick with it! My suggestion go back to previously watched. The girl... Ugh has lessons tooo... I forgot her name...(it's like you can hear me... 🤣) Anywho.... Guitar teacher is awesome! Some lessons are soooo well he gets distracted.... I do too... Thus the edit... Yessss Brooke Hadler is awesome. But anywho.... Keep going.... Imma keep trying!!!

I don't know if it helps... to hum or howel the tones of song. I struggle to sing to a song. Being involved in chords an strumming. I feel dumb at it. But maybe humming is the key before singing.
