@@MrHardware1 absolutely, or the hose will be like a noodle when you try tp push it on. can also use dish soap on the barb or Vaseline or silicone, in addition to the hot water inch. I wanted to point out one additional point on the many end and adapter materials. a ton of them are now made of aluminum, but hose bibs are brass as are many tools. aluminum on brass is a big NO in terms of galvanic corrosion, which comes in to play if the hose is left in place for ore than a month, which most are. I have found that the easiest solution is to use a short plastic valve or pair of quick couplers at the hose bib to break the galvanic issue.
@MrHardware12 жыл бұрын
@@larryseibold4287 that’s why I am like using plastic for the male fitting, the brass females are easily available and most all valves are brass so no galvanic action on that end. I also use metal on the female cause I’m out in the yard and I jerked the hose and matter-of-fact just yesterday I snapped a plastic female and I replaced it with the brass one.

Excellent presentation. Thanks a bunch. I have an artesian well on my property, and I have a lot of underground water hoses to supply to reach almost everything I grow, ...bushes, gardens, driveway spraying, etc. I live in NB, Canada. ... We lose power a lot, so all my neighbors know that I have a running tap for fresh water . I bury my hoses just below the sod, threaded through PVC pipe. Leaking is a bitch. Thanks for sharing. I'm in a middle of a project right now, and your video was very timely.

I live on an island and pump water out of the St Clair river, and I have that water running all over my property and what I have used is a food grade sprinkler hose. The very inexpensive black coiled hose that comes in 100 and 300 foot lengths allows me to use a three-quarter inch pipe which supplies a huge volume of water at a very low cost. But you have to look hard to find a food grade rated black sprinkler pipe, but it is still not very very expensive.

A problem with the metal quick connects is that they are made for water flowing in the "garden hose" direction. The flow of water actually pulls the two parts tighter. If water flows the other way (as to a washer), I have found that they leak. In this use, the popular plastic quick connect works better.

No, we have tried and can get it not to leak using a 3/8” barb adapter but it takes too many fittings to get from 3/8 pipe to a hose thread. It is very heavy. All the ones we sell are lifetime guarantee so why bother? Try taking it back to where you purchased it, they may give you a new one.

Good video overall. There was a lot of good information, well explained. The metal quick disconnect fittings have an inner O ring, which wears down after a season or so, causing big leaks. The O ring then needs to be removed & replaced if you know how and can buy the correct O ring. Otherwise you need to replace the entire metal quick disconnect fitting.

I am unable to find a female connector that does not leak when the water direction is from the hose (with a female fitting) to the male fitting and the receiving end is blocked (as the water feed to a washing machine when the tub is full). Some leak majorly, others just weep, but unless the water source is turned off, the result is a watery mess.

This is informative; however, I have a 5/8" garden hose with anti kink technology ( like a long straw within the rubber. I purcahsed the 5/8" metal mending piece like yours in the video; however, regardless of what I do including following your tips in the video, I can't fit the piece on the hose properly. I've tried several times and each time the hoses begins to swell and then burst. Can you tell me why? My guess is the fitting didn't go into the anti kink straw within the rubber and when tightened, swelled up.

Repairing a 'steel cased hose' is a problem. Do you have a suggestion? Doesn't appear to be any kits out there. A 'mid-hose' repair can be made with a 3/8" air-compressor hose splicer, but no end repair. Getting from a 3/8" hose to a 5/8" garden hose end seems to be a problem. Steel cased hoses, however, are GREAT. I've had three for two-years now and only one break which was MY fault for pulling by the hose end. Good, helpful video though!! Thanks!

We sell 3/8 brass barb x 1/2" mip adapters, then a 1/2" fip to male or female garden hose adapter, some teflon tape, a hose clamp and bingo, repaired. Call the store 586-776-9532 if you cannot find the parts locally. You may need an auto parts store or good hardware for the barb adapter and most home improvement stores have the pipe to hose adapters.

Just tried the clincher style male end 3 times - leaks, leaks, leaks. I don't want to use a worm gear but I don't really see another choice at this point. Is there a trick to the clinchers?
@MrHardware16 жыл бұрын
You will need to get one that fits very tight to your hose. So tight you'll need to use hot water on the last 3/4" of the hose to force it over the barb. Next you'll need a thick wall hose so when the clinchers are bent down there is plenty of meat for them to grab. The 2-pc clamps in metal and plastic don't have sharp edges and usually work well.
@y2j5146 жыл бұрын
Mr. Hardware thanks for the reply! I tried 5/8 it was snug but not super tight. I ordered 3/4 after. That was super tight, you can even see the hose is stretched around the barbed end of the 3/4. I guess I'll have to go with the cheap plastic ones. Thanks again.

The video I watched showed a tank w/a 3/4 pipe thread. Then a 3/4 pipe to male hose adapter. Then a female hose quick connect. The hose could have been a standard garden hose w/out the quick connects. In my opinion there were too many fittings unless this setup was connected and disconnected several times an hour. The fitting I think you are needing is the pipe to hose adapter. They come in 2 pipe sizes, 1/2 and 3/4, male or female that adapt to hose thread (usually standard) in male or female. We stock all 8 types depending on what is needed. As for the hose, purchase 1/2 or 5/8 I.D. and you can get repair couplings in male or female and make any configuration of hose you need. Usually I set my tank (supply source) to be male because most things I'm feeding are female so a standard garden hose fits fine.

A male fitting has threads on the outside so it will screw into a fitting. such as a hose nozzle. The hose nozzle has threads on the inside so the hose can screw into it, and it is called a female.
@chriswebster244 жыл бұрын
It may help to think of both ends as being male, and the female end as the butthole...Keep in mind, old-fashioned words like “male” and “female” refer to the sex of the hose only, of course, as you couldn’t possibly know its gender, or genders, at any moment without asking it. Be careful to never misgender your water hose. It could become triggered and spray fluids in your face, like the penis of an angry female college professor. Good luck 🍀👍🏿
