That dude is definitely old school. If your using a separate pair of shoes for hiking and are putting in that high of milage, you might as well get some clipless pedals and shoes.

Brooks saddles are the best... cuz there is no other saddle company who use an 140 year old method of building saddles...maybe Selle Royal!

33kg !?! I'm not a lightweight cycle tourist but my very sturdy and comfortable kit to cross a continent weighs less than 14kg without food and water max. What the heck is he carrying ? Why do the dutch and germans carry so much stuff, must be an absolute nightmare in the mountains, not to mention very wearing on parts and tyres. and food and water consumption.
