regarding training for a ride; if the ride is less than a month then you will want to train and have your legs in good shape prior to beginning the ride. If the ride is longer than a month you can use the first few weeks to get in shape. This has worked for me in my 5 rides in China and Vietnam covering 10,000km.

Loved your video. One little observation at 7:02: Maybe it's your personal preference and you disagree with me, but it looks like your seat's a bit high and you're somewhat overstretching your legs. You might find that lowering your seat - maybe just 0.5 inch - will result in less strain on your knees and more effective pedalling. Nicer to keep the knees slightly more bent with an angle of 145-155 degrees. Greetings from a roadracing - 3000 km annually - and ATB enthusiast /bicycle commuter from the Netherlands.
