I love wetlands because they are so full of life. The clips in this video were taken from two different locations between April and May of this year. Each one was a gift to be able to witness and I considered them to be very special. I hope you enjoy watching them just as much as I did.

My late wife loved to fish. At Rice Lake in Ontario, she would fish near an island where”Harriet the Heron” was also fishing. Sometimes fish would swallow the hook, and getting the fish free was pretty fatal. So she would toss them over towards Harriet, who promptly ate them. Now, Debbie would fish for hours, and Harriet did too. After a while, Harriet slowed down. Instead of gobbling down the dead fish, she would just push it around some with her beak, gaze skywards, and push the fish again. She acted like a kid pushing veggies around on her dinner plate, hoping they would disappear without having to be eaten! Soon, she was full to the brim, and simply couldn’t swallow another fish. Looking around, she would leave. Usually, she could run across the water, wings flapping, and in 5 to 10 yards was airborne. Not now. She was so heavy with fish that she required 80 to 100 yards of labored running to get enough air speed to lift off. And no zooming skyward now. Her wing tips were dipping water as she struggled for a foot or two of altitude. But, the next day - there she would be again, watching for a fish to come flying her way. Gerat video, thanks for sharing. That first clip with the Great Blue Heron sounded like a fairly typical morning. I heard Red-winged Black Birds, Killdeer, American Goldfinch, and Canada Goose.

Man, I would love to have a cowbird on my shoulder while I walk. I've been looking for a cowbird nest for years, though, and haven't found one.
