From memory the headstones have been used to create a path. Interesting story: the grace yard has up to three layers of burials, which is why it is higher in places than the church. Not unlike other graveyards in Cornwall. Sarah :)

We always seem to end up in the graveyards of places we visit, lol. And we love calling in the churches, and if its an open day with tea and cakes even better 👍. One rule we impose on ourselves is to make donations to these churches and if there is somewhere to light a votive candle I take advantage and give thanks, to all that is good in the world, for these beautiful buildings.

That was so good to see and not somewhere I have been yet, despite living in Cornwall for 43 years🤔.. It's now on my list for visiting this spring. We always head for Portscatho on the Roseland but must divert and go to St Just now 👌🙏. It looks so peaceful and so full of amazing plants. I am partial to reading gravestone myself... so I guess that makes me odd too 😜😂. Thanks so much for sharing this and would love more budget saving ideas 👍😁💖😘

Sarah and Andrew thank you. This was brilliant. I would say yes you are weird but in the best possible way--I agree graveyards are fascinating. Funny the headstone you read was for a Hocking as that is a family name. Much more common in Cornwall than in Arizona, USA. Wish we were visiting in the spring but it will October for us this year. Lovely to see your daughter as well. I love these budget ideas, please do more. Happy Easter!

I am the other side of 60, and my husband retired at the beginning of this year. We sold the car too, to simplify our life. Now we just pay for transport when we need it. But having all this time means no more rushing around! So, like you we value the small things,; looking at nature, visiting grandchildren, house sitting for our daughter and looking after her collie dog. Today I spent half an hour playing with her dog in his paddling pool (it's super hot here in the UK!), just splashing him with water and watching him try to catch it, while keeping cool. This evening we will go for a cool walk and watch the river, who knows what wildlife we'll see!

I love to read the gravestones also and enjoy looking at what the person buried beneath may have been doing in the area if it tells of such information, and I love to try to see which people are related, and who their children were. You have done it proud by catching the dynamic Spring display just at the right time ~ thank you! If only all places of rest could be as perfectly beautiful as this. And I love a visit to an ancient Cornish church! Though my beliefs have changed a bit, it's still as if the echoes of prayers over the ages give you a big hug when you go in. Happy Easter!

Wow! This was one of my favorite videos. I loved the flowers and the detail of your experience. I really felt like I was there experiencing the church, gardens and surrounding area. Not only would budget suggestions be a great idea, but hidden gems as well...they probably go together! Yes, although not a technical walk...I would give it 10 out of 10! Jealous...in the Chicago (USA) area we're just getting our daffodils in bloom and next will come tulips...then rhododendron, azaleas and magnolia. I don't believe we have camellias this far north. Fun fact: my dad would get the local, weekly paper and religiously read the obituary section. He'd say...did you know "so and so" died and then read a bit about him or her. Tombstones are interesting for the people and their stories. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Beautiful gardens indeed! An excellent idea. Nobody knows these sorts of places like the locals. And no, you are not weird. My husband and I love historic graveyards. Here in CA, there are cemeteries and gardens associated with the original Missions (Catholic Church complexes) established during the Spanish Colonial days along the coast. In the mountains and deserts there are a number of old mining towns (many are ghost towns) like something you'd see in an old Western. :)

My English cousins were thrilled when we took them on a private tour of Lifeguard Headquarters (my sister worked there at the time) with the rescue boats and vehicles, and later to the Mission San Diego de Alcala, which is near the river, surprisingly close to a big shopping mall. :) P.S.
