In June 2023. we took our doggies on holiday to the delightful Mevagissey, a fishing harbour on the south coast of Cornwall. For the first time our doggies joined us on vacation, so we asked our Facebook and Instagram followers for dog friendly suggestions, and you all came up with some fab ideas!
We had a fun-filled, adventure-packed 24 hours but what did we do?
Disclosure: We stayed at Sailor's Return, 9 Church Street for one night. Our stay was gifted.
The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on KZbin, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
We love your comments and read all of them. We also answer as many as possible. Unfortunately, we cannot answer comments received more than a week after publication.
Frequently asked questions:
What are your dogs called?
Sorry but we do not release the names of our dogs but perhaps you could make up a name for them!
What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.

Absolutely lovely post. Love the suggestions and being gluten free person myself, I was very impressed with Mevagissey - it’s years since I was last there. Must go again! It’s pure joy joining you on your journeys. Thank you! I was a joy to see your little doggies having so much fun. 😃👍

Absolutely gorgeous cottage. Love the doggies reaction to something new, charging all over the house exploring and being scared of the seagull on the beach. Brings back happy memories. What wonderful well trained boys you have, and Andrew behaved himself as well, up on that viewing platform!😅

What gorgeous accommodation & so very central for a perfect rest as you don’t need to even think - everything is right outside your front door. 4 very satisfied customers as your lovely well behaved doggies made themselves at home very quickly. We loved the ‘tea room’ & like most of your viewers didn’t know about the viewing platform, giving you wonderful views over Mevaagissey. The ‘doggie ice cream’ was a HIT - Yes!! another gentle insight of another Cornish town from the lens of your cameras. Well done.

The Friday morning treat 🙂 It is so lovely to see these sights of Mevagissey again, as I stayed there last week for a couple of nights on our walking holiday along the South West Coast Path. I cannot believe we missed the viewing platform, as it obviously was on our way down from the top of Polkirt Hill where we stayed. But we definitely walked the path with the rewilded weedy area 😄down to Mevagissey, and had a very good view of the harbour and the whole village. Your accommodation seems perfect for staying there and to have easy access to all the lovely sights and all the restaurants / cafés. We did visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and we loved it. What we didn't love equally much was that our buses both up there and back down to Mevagissey were cancelled, and we walked both ways on what was supposed to be a rest day between the coastal walking days 🥵😄 But the visit there was great. And we had both pasty (Steward's House, Heligan) and fish & chips (Fountain Inn) in one day. All really delicious. Thank you for making these videos and sharing 🥰 Torunn.

Oh no! The extra walking to Heligan must have been a challenge, but a lovely pasty as a reward. Sound like you enjoyed Mevagissey! Sarah :)
@TravellingTorunn
@TravellingTorunn Жыл бұрын
@@CornishWalkingTrails the road/path up/down to Heligan was actually lovely, but the return trip gave us another 7,5 km extra of walking in adddition to the 6 km we walked in the park. It was said the buses were cancelled due to lack of staff. The pasty was very tasty! And yes, we enjoyed Mevagissey 💕 Torunn 🙂

Looked like the perfect holiday cottage! (love a Georgian sash window), so well thought out design, décor & furnishing/facility wise. This was such fun to watch and the excitement of the doggies brought so many smiles. Also a delight to see you two have a relaxing break at such a beautiful location! Polstreath beach is stunning...quintessentially Cornish. It reminds me of Portheras Cove...a trek to get down to but so worth the effort! Totally agree with you Sarah about 're-wilding', especially in parks & gardens...just an excuse for councils to cut their budgets, and 'No-mow May' can last until September! :)

Just returned from a weeks holiday in Cornwall and have to agree that Mary's pasties from the shop in Mevagissey are excellent, but have you ever tried the pasties from Gear Farm near Gweek, we did this week after seeing them on another youtube channel, you know the one i mean i think as you teamed up for a video with Ollie recently, they are even better, in fact the best cheese pasty i have ever tasted anywhere in Cornwall and well worth a stop off, i think Andrew would be well impressed with any of their pasties, if you ever do, try their chocolate brownies as well, they are to die for oozing with runny chocolate in the centre. Wish we had visited the Teacup tea room room in Mevagissey for a cream tea it looked delicious, unlike the "Mill" near Veryan that we chose which was very disappointing. Enjoyable video as always.

The point about rewinding is to compensate for the devastation caused by humans,it doesn't mean planting pretty,hybridised flowers,it's to replace the food sources for the various insects,not just nectar for bees.Perhaps you could join a conservation group&make a video about that?
@CornishWalkingTrails

I am still of the opinion that the Councils are not properly committing to rewilding, just jumping on a bandwagon and neglecting areas of our towns and highways. The lack of diversity in the park shows that. That is not proper rewilding. Sarah :)

Re wilding or Re Forrestation. It's not about what plants are attractive to Humans. It's about humans not being selfish and possessive of all the land around them and starting the process of giving back as much of the land humans can spare to the Fauna and Flora they stole it from in the first place. To repair and replace the complex ecosystems that humans have demolished (Especially the English) Requires more than 1 species of pretty flowering plant(That is usually a weed!) You have to provide shelter to insects, little reptiles, birds and mammals from the elements and predators, you need plants flowering or fruiting or providing shelter all year round that appeal to many insects,birds,mammals, reptiles. And you have to be patient and respectful as a human and understand that an area that services wildlife and plantlife, may not be pretty and have flowers all the time. To allow the mass expansion of housing required for humans but then also be possessive of all the natural land within reach outside of that too, leaves no hope for native wildlife or plant life. I feel more a sense of wonder , walking past what I know is a Great area for Native wildlife and Plantlife than I do walking through parks or botanic gardens. Australia sets an absolutely fantastic example of effort spent on preserving wildlife and repairing damage done by those original English Settler's. There's also so much effort done in Australia on keeping and maintaining conservation areas for Native plant life and wildlife.
