My grandmother used to make this for my baby brother for his birthday. She would lightly fold in the egg whites so there were little clumps of it in the pudding. We made a game of trying to sink the little islands. What a great memory! Lil bro and I are in our 60s now. I think I'll surprise him with a batch just for fun! (Edited to correct typo.) Update: Surprising him at Easter dinner! I'll let y'all know! Update 2: I wish I could post a pic of the huge grin on his face! He was absolutely gobsmacked that I remembered, and even more so when I told him about the pack of random internet strangers asking for an update. He doesn't use a computer so I had to show him all of your sweet comments from my laptop. I served it with fresh whipped cream and raspberries, just for fun. A memorable Easter dinner! Love to you all! Oh, one final note: if you want to try this, you need to make the "fluffy tapioca cream" on the back of the box. Literally Gramma's exact recipe.

@@N33k5 it could probably replace all the dairy if you’re using regular coconut milk. I usually use the canned kind with the coconut cream that sits on top and mix it with regular dairy milk but I bet you could experiment to find a method that works well with no dairy. I grew up having tapioca pudding regularly, so I'm used to it. It does need vanilla, though, as another commenter pointed out. My family uses the granulated version, and we use tapioca starch as a corn starch alternative, too. This was often made when someone wasn't feeling well, but also as a pretty regular treat. Just an all-around comfort food for our family.

It really doesn't. Yes vanilla is nice with tapioca but tapioca by itself is also quite nice and there's many other flavorings you can add as well. If you're tapioca doesn't taste like anything without adding a flavor there's good chance that your tapioca's gone stale. I have a lot of food allergies so I can only use peer tapioca and I have on more than one occasion forgotten to include the vanilla and it's still good, bit more heavy on the egg flavor and a bit lighter on the vanilla flavor but weirdly tapiocas got some of that vanilla note in it by default or maybe it's the power of suggestion I'm not sure.

Hey Dylan a recipe suggestion here that my mother used to make for me first around about 1987 name Sunday Sandwich Begin by mashing 1 boiled potato slowly adding in 3 tablespoons of butter and 1/4 cup of milk then mash 1 medium carrot and add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix the two mashed together. Assembly. Get one ready made Yorkshire pudding ( aunt Bessie’s is the best change my mind), hallow out the centre, add sauces corresponding to the meat you want to use: chicken - gravy; lamb - mint sauce; pork - apple sauce, then add the mashed veggies, top with: broccoli; cabbage; cauliflower and the meat. Optional drizzle of the sauce you chose and enjoy this savoury sandwich composed of a typical Sunday lunch in the UK.

@LatulaArts 5 ай бұрын
@kisaLuver yep! I don't typically wash mine til right before I'm about to use it, but I do give it a quick look over before putting it in my shopping cart to make sure I don't see anything living in there lmao. Always wash your lettuce before eating it people! Bugs can and will live in the creases near the root end and there's tons of dirt!! Also you can get e coli from unwashed lettuce since cow manure is used as fertilizer 💜 over half of all e coli cases are traced back to unwashed leafy greens
@HLBear
@HLBear 5 ай бұрын
He's saying why spin, when you just toss it to dry.
@LatulaArts
@LatulaArts 5 ай бұрын
@HLBear because tossing doesn't effectively dry them. It doesn't actually separate the water from the leaves. Salad spinners are made to separate the water into the outer bowl so it no longer touches the lettuce. Tossing salad is what you do to coat it in dressing evenly.

If you ever watch taste of History with Max Miller he did version of tapioca that they served at Ellis Island which is more depressing because there's no sugar in it. You have to add your sweetener in it, Also that looks like great tapioca It looks almost like the kind my mom makes. I need to ask her how she does hers.

You’re supposed added teaspoon of vanilla and it should be quite that thin when you fold in the egg whites. And it does need to chill for several hours. I find it quite delicious

I worked at a nursing home and I loved getting to take the leftover pear tapioca home. It was very good. I’m very picky about my tapioca puddings though they need the right texture as well as some nice vanilla flavor goddam it

I love it warm, right after it sits in the pot for 20 minutes after stirring it for forever. It's wonderful cold, too, but it just feels like part of the reward of making it is to enjoy some fresh and warm right away. After all, you _did_ just stand there stirring a pot for 10-15 minutes, then waited patiently for another 20 minutes for it to set up in the pot (at least in the recipe I use). A treat is well deserved, I say! I'll have to try the microwave version...

Its important to let it sit for the full 5mins in the beginning. Dont do double batches and the bowl needs to be twice the size 'cause it grows. @@dorabrooks76

@@michmirich That's great to know, thank you! 😊 I've always been nervous to try the microwave version, thinking it might not turn out, or at least not as well. Now that I know it works, I don't have to worry about wasting the ingredients, and can make it more often (I'm disabled now, and tending a pot for that long is usually too much for me 🤷🏼‍♀️). This is actually really exciting! Thank you!👍🏻😄

When my dad was dying the nurses at the hospice called to tell me he wouldn't eat. I made him tapioca pudding, the recipe on the Minute box with separated eggs, because it was something i knew he could never resist, and it was so soothing and easy to swallow.

I LOVE tapioca pudding! Sago and tapioca puddings are still commonly consumed in south east Asia but they tend to be flavoured with coconut, pandan, brown sugar syrups, etc instead of the common vanilla and strawberry kinds in early cookbooks I’m not south East Asian myself, mind you, but I always had a fondness for the stuff

This is my dad's favorite, i make it all the time. You can also buy just the pearls, which you soak for however long the box says, make basically a really watery custard, and cook on medium heat, then simmer on low for awhile. Its got a really unique flavor, and i really love it now too

Salad spinners are mostly to dry off the lettuce after you rinse it so it doesn't get soggy. The centrifugal force makes the drops of water fall off the salad faster and the fast moving air also dries it a little faster. The hole in the top is for if you want to rinse using the spinner but isn't necessary.
