@@Tornado_Dave To be honest, I'd be collecting them _all_ ... But I'm just crazy about silex (flint) pebbles. I saw a couple big ones that you might even be able to use for knapping. Make some primitive tools or weapons with them. Though I'd keep them whole. I really can't explain, it's just that after learning about how they all have formed and realizing that those rocks have been tread on by dinosaurs, fills me with admiration. They are truly infinite compared to our existence. Humanity is just a blip in the existence of each of those rocks. Insignificant. Am I too philosophical for this channel perhaps? hahahahaha. Or it could be that it's 5am and I urgently need to sleep.

You are actually digging in an ancient river bed, because those are heavy water worn rocks. Those alluvial gravels have laid in this undisturbed virgin material in situ for a very long time. I see what looks like quartz and I can also see iron (red material) and other mineralization which are very good indicators that gold might be present. So if I was you, I would certainly be looking very closely at that really tightly packed conglomerate alluvial material you are having to dig out with an impact drill. Break it up and run the material through a gold sluice or at least pan a decent 20 litre sample from different locations, usually the deeper the better. If you can dig deeper until you hit the hardest conglomerate layers that sit on top of bedrock, that is where you will find the most gold if it is there. This is the type of alluvial material that has trapped gold for millions of years after it eroded and got washed downstream from a nearby reef upstream from where you are digging. You would need to determine the direction of the ancient water course first to be able to track it though further sampling and testing to locate the source. Examine how rocks have been worn down in the waterflow, this will tell you which way the water was traveling. Who knows, you might hit the motherlode? I'm sure myself and a few other people who have commented here would love to know what comes out of it. Good luck, I hope you strike it rich!

Something to add when Colin mocks the naysayers with "why don't you just use a shipping container" shipping containers aren't designed to support the load through the walls so using them is an insanely bad idea. . I love this little project, a little claustrophobic for me but this is your project. I would say that if you hadn't already implemented some kind of railway track into the tunnel design and bunker design you can get rails for 7 1/4 inch minature railways ready made for having carts and sleds in the tunnel to make moving easier but the design is already there lol.
@Tornado_Dave7 ай бұрын
Yes I know what you mean about the shipping containers not being suitable, mine is upside down with concrete pours and reinforced walls to take the loading, it’s managed over 10 years so is doing ok but 8 have out grown it and it’s time for something a bit bigger 😂 the track gauge is to suit the hoverboard 😂

Great to See Colin Furze -in the house- under the house. I bet in former lives these two were together in Stalag Luft III over in Zagan, Poland 1944, 80 years ago. Actually, it was almost exactly 80 years ago to the day (24 March 1944) that The Great Escape took place! Many of the 76 escapees were caught a few days later, with 50 of their names being drafted up for Hitler's Sh!t List! He originally demanded all captured escapees to be shot, but Himmler persuaded him it would be very very bad PR and got the number down to 50. Incidentally, they were shot in pairs, (bullet through back of head) on quiet country lanes, not as depicted in the movie... all together in a field via a burst from an MG42 on the sidecar of a Zundapp motorcycle!

Having 'almost' the correct gear to do it for fun versus the will to survive..... hmm, Knowing that the Kugel (Bullet) order had been made and the fact that prisoners who escaped and were recaptured were to be executed must have been a whole hell of worry, in fact of the 76 men that escaped that day only 3 made it to freedom, the rest were captured and 50 of them were moved to different camps and shot to make an example, when you think about it there were about 80 different tunnels discovered so you can tell how much determination they all had and over 600 men were involved in the "escape" tunnel one way or another, their tunnel was 363 feet long and 28 feet underground so that's some bloody good going, hurrah for the 76 and hurrah for you dedicating your tunnel to the memory of those brave men.
