Hey! This is a really good video, and really useful in a lot of ways. I just wanted to say one thing to clarify... i could be wrong but I feel like ‘social class’, ‘ambition’ etc... aren’t actually themes. You have them listed as such, aren’t they subjects, not themes? I feel like you state one of the central themes in the next frame. It has to do with social class, yes, in this case the idea “Pip realizes wealth and class are less important than affection, loyalty and inner worth“... you stated it perfectly and I feel like that would be the theme rather than just flat out social class. I wasn’t sure, and it was sort of gnawing at the back of my mind. A theme as I understand it can be characterized almost like a thesis statement; usually a declarative statement in the sense that the writer is sort of trying to convince the reader of it throughout the story. Generally it’s flipped on its head in the beginning. Like, for instants, if the theme were say... ‘honesty is more important than success... ‘you would have a character that likely believes the opposite in the beginning to give them a chance to grow. In pips Case he starts his adult life believing he has to achieve the status of a gentleman in order to be worthy of love, but in the end he realizes status is worthless without Love, loyalty and inner worth.
