I was there last summer for the first time, but I took advantage of the many boat tours, rather than kayaking, as our weather wasn't quite as warm and sunny. However, still a beautiful place.

Great show guys. Nothing beats Minong. Maybe that's why they have the most return visitors of ANY National Park? And they get as many visitors in ONE SEASON as Yellowstone NP gets in ONE DAY. If you like to be around honking tourists and screaming and crying kids, and power and showers, then Isle Royale isn't for you. See you on Minong!

I think the primary reason people want to actually go to Isle Royale is because of how lost it is from the rest of civilization, as it is an island in the middle of the worlds largest freshwater lake. Also, Isle Royale has none of those things compared to the Manitou Islands, as lovely as they are people can easily ruin them and it just feels too civilized. Also, Minong has just as many if not even MORE because of easier access to the national park of all those things you states.

I have dreamed of hiking isle royale for years. Now checking into I am disappointed. I cannot take my dog. You can't have a campfire in the campgrounds. You can't make a fire in your own campsite, even if you are not in a campground. They say to beware of eating fish in some of the lakes because the Mercury levels are too high. So really if you are into roughing it or do small scale bushcraft/survival practices are pretty much prohibited. All this being said, good job on the video. Another thing that was bewildering to me was the Moose earlier in the video, I may have missed something but you were talking about a cow and calf moose. This was a bull moose in the fall since they shed their antlers in Winter and cows don't get antlers and usually start weaning the calf by fall.

Ben Schildgen Mercury levels aren't any worse than anywhere else on the Great Lakes. The fishing is legendary, so you will miss out on the best of the best in that dept. Filter your water from the inland lakes during the summer because of algae. I drink right out of Lake Superior there without filtering, never been sick. You can make small cooking fires with a hobo stove set up. There is also fire rings at a few camo sites esp on the litter islands like Caribou Island. Fire starts out there and its near impossible to stop. See what happened in 1936 or 37. I wish you could bring dogs to IR too. You can always get a service dog rating for your dog and bypass the law that way. That's what several of my friends do.

'Mercury levels'? Hogwash! Animal Rights (so-called 'activists') dream this stuff up as a way to discourage harvesting. 'Fish' in general have mercury levels in the belly wall. This thin flap can be removed from the base of the cutlets (does not taste that good anyway). You can eliminate even more mercury by skinning (as opposed to scaling) and filleting.
