Ok after like a year of watching several folks building countless guitars. That was by far the best neck, fret board inlay, and neck/ headstock shaping video ever man. Love your impression of Scott at Bonehead! Classic!

Thanks. when you say it like that, It makes me realise just how much I actually crammed into that video. Scott is a legend, but Scottina scares me a bit.

Anthony, so many things in this video to comment on. Wow! What great work! Loved the intro. The main event would have to the inlay. This is where skill really comes out. The same thing done with a CNC machine should not get the same accolades but it does. That's why so many people say CNC work it not true guitar building. Anyway I still want a CNC machine for that very process. I've spent countless hours on inlay work and nobody seems to care or want to pay for it. I've already decided you are the winner of the 335 style builds even over my own. Congrats!
@4thAvenueGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou. There's still time for me to balls it all up yet... the more traditional style bent sides is still something I'm building myself up to, most of my more 'unique' design decisions come from being too scared to do something the normal way. I am supposed to be building a guitar to trade for a CNC machine at some point, but I think Ill keep doing inlays by hand, I find it strangely relaxing... even when hitting it with a hammer.

Just saw the inlay pattern....are you mad?!? Not even multiple pieces? You, sir, are a legend.
@4thAvenueGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou. I may quote you in future when trying use my legendary status to acquire free drinks. It's definitely the most complex single piece inlay I've done to date, but it wasn't too bad once I'd settled in with the saw.

Fabulous, that inlay and the binding are lush. The time spent on the inlay was well worth it. Time and ball ache wise It was almost up there with @bhartissimo spending the thick end of 2 days cutting a body blank in half! Really enjoying this build.

Thanks. I don't think I can compete with resawing by hand, that is true madness. I have a piece of spalted beech that i started resawing for a 1 piece drop top... I gave up after a few hours and it hasn't moved since.

Sweet. Still my favorite builder. Did you say copper top ?! Don’t forget to anneal. Spelling? Heat it to red hot, quench. Rinse and repeat. Make me proud. I just made a elaborate gizmo using copper accent on base. Wish I could send you a photo.

Gorgeous work mate. That inlay is impressive. That took balls to carve and set that. Well done earned a sub just for that hehe. I do have a question though about the copper binding. Have you given thought to everything turning green after use? Is there some sort of finish that would stand up to the wear of sweaty hands sliding back and forth over time without the copper oxidizing underneath and lifting the fineish prematurely?
@4thAvenueGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I'm going to put some renaissance wax on any exposed copper to help prevent heavy oxidation, but I don't plan on trying to keep the copper shiny and pristine as it might look a bit out of place against the top which will debut in today's video.

Thanks, I regularly play nice budget guitars in my day job and wonder how the hell they can make them and make any profit for what they actually cost to a supplier. Going on my own obsession with detail, 50p per hour is a pretty good rate for anyone building custom guitars.
