I wish my nest platform would be utilized by great horned owls. I even built the nest for them since they don’t build their nest themselves. Nothing but squirrels the last few years.

Encountered a great horned owl 2 weeks ago during the day in a park in central Kansas. He was there in a heartbeat when I let my tiny 3lb terrier off leash to run. I had to scare him off, I'm sure they are VERY HUNGRY by mid Feb

Very nice video; what are the dimensions of your box and did you pre-fill it with twigs or just let the owl do it?
@EricPreston Жыл бұрын
it's 2x2 feet and I did fill it with sticks. Great Horned Owls normally take over old hawk or crow nests

Hi, What’s the dimension of this platform if you can share this info please. Thank you 🙏🏻 Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
@EricPreston2 жыл бұрын
It's 2x2 feet. I did some research before I built it and that was what I found as the recommendation. Normally they use an old hawk nest, so this tries to simulate that.

Hello Eric, is it possible to know What kind of camera did you use. Amazing to see baby Great Horned Owl on nest !!!

I used a Nikon D500 and a 600mm f/4 lens, that I set up on a tripod, started the video and then walked away. Unfortunately I can only capture 30 minutes of video at a time.

Great video. So, do the 'Great Horned Owls' prefer an open next like yours? Or can I build a Box type structure.?
@EricPreston3 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that normally Great Horned's use other bird nests, like hawk nests. Everything I've read says to build them platform, open nests.

Is it true that Owls are 100% silent when flying?
@MexicanRaiden5 жыл бұрын
Yes that helps for hunting animals like mouse rat or other
@owlerprowler71674 жыл бұрын
not 100% silent but pretty much undetectable. Even with specialized microphones.

It's no wonder all those world leaders go into the woods and worship statues of owls (yes, it's real, it's called the bohemian Grove). Their eyes are captivating.

Hey Eric! I have an Owl Box in my weeping willow. The owls have come back for three years now and I'm hoping to set something up exactly like you did. Any chance you'd be willing to give me some information on how you got this done and what equipment you used? Beautiful video by the way.

Unfortunately the GHO attacks and kills other raptor chicks that pose no threat to them or their chicks.
