Easy day on this ride. Hope the ending wasn't to to bad but sometimes it happens. Given how long you've been on the water you are lucky it only happened a few times. Best wishes and be well youngsters.

In all my years of navigating Oceans, Bays, and Rivers I cringe every time Lake Erie is mentioned. It's one of the few times that I didn't think we were going to make it. We left Dunkirk NY Harbor on a beautiful September morning jaunt to Presque Isle Bay. Updated weather forecast called for 5 to 10 south westerly winds waves 1 to 2 feet during the day with a front expected after dark that would double both numbers. Piece of cake should only take 4 hours. Shortly after crossing into PA the wind died for about 15 minutes and then shifted to the NW and steadily increased in intensity. By the time we hit the breakwater in Erie we had steady 25 plus knot winds gusting to 35 and the most confused seas with the shortest breaks between waves I've ever seen. We were on a 39 foot custom great lakes style wooden boat that got beat to hell. Wave interval about 1.5 seconds and waves 4 to 5 feet. Several hours later we met up with friends grabbed a bite and drove over to the State Park to check out the lake. 8 foot breakers crashing onto the beach less than 2 seconds apart. From 50 yards away sitting in a car the ground shook like a minor earthquake with each wave.
