Great Loop #40 Kentucky Lake Panther Bay

In Episode #40, we return to the boat after some time away. After prepping the boat and reprovisioning, we leave Green Turtle Bay Marina and head to Kentucky Lake. It was great to get back out on the water! We enjoyed some beautiful fall colours and we notice the weather turning a bit cooler. Our anchorage for the night was in Panther Bay, a small bay just off Kentucky Lake.

You probably know this already, but the first bridge you went under on KY Lake is a very new bridge that was part of a huge state/federal infrastructure project to replace the original 1930s bridge that previously existed. We actually got two new bridges- the one on Ky Lake you saw and a twin just a few miles to the east over Kentucky’s sister lake- Lake Barkley- named after Vice President Alben Barkley, who was from the area and served as VP under President Harry S. Truman. You may know all of this, but just thought I’d share!

Familiar with Kentucky lake and the Land Between the Lakes. It is a great area and fished it a few times. You are seeing it at a great time of the year. Know you enjoyed your connections back home but we are all glad to see you back.. Enjoy

I would be so worried about fouling my anchor in that lake. How did you decide where to drop your hook so as to avoid drowned trees, etc?

Generally we do as much research as we can, including talking to other loopers about specific anchoring locations. Anchoring takes practice including how to correctly set an anchor as well as learning methods to raise a stuck anchor. Sometimes bad luck happens but we love the tranquility of a good anchorage and feel anchoring is worth it. 😎
