It is not really that much of a hot take. In almost any fantasy media the "Heroes" have the biggest power scaling and are all Top of the Verse. I am also of the opinion that Himmel was the strongest person in his Party, also stronger then Frieren.

Frieren has beaten Qual because of a hard counter, it is up in the air if she could beat him without the whole world putting their combined efforts for multiple years to develop defensive magic to specifically counter Zooltrak. Also we do not know how stronger Himmel has gotten in his prime years, he was still young when they defeated the DK. @@noomee4084

All Frieren needed to do is fly up in the air and shoot some zoltraak. I noticed you didn't even addressed Zart as well, have you even read the manga yet? and reagarding his prime years. Of course it's obvious his prime years are during their quest to defeat the demon king. What other great threat was there to challenge for Himmel with his short lifespan that can match the level of threat DK brings?

Yes it does, Frieren only beat Qual easily because of the counter. Qual was one of the strongest Demons, a Demon that Macht himself though of as a mentor and friend. Without the counter, there is no warrantie that Frieren beats him even after 80 years and knowing his moves. So Frieren beating Qual does not really prove that she is actually stronger, in the same way that Ubel beating Sense does not make Ubel the stronger mage. Hard counters exist in this Verse, and should be taken into account when power scaling. Qual lost because he was hard countered, not because he was weaker then Frieren. @@noomee4084​

An immediate counter point. Accorfing to Frieren, Sirie has an absolute intuition, and Serie demonstrated, that she can register any intentions towards her, specifically malice. And She is also not just “grimuar” - she is a warmonger from the time of gods - i am pretty sure it implies that she fought dangers much more deadly then what newest generations can provide. And she showed it by toying with the Macht. You made a very good analysis on South Hero, but left out a lot about Serie, which is really do this comparison injustice. In a situation when they both has no prior knowledge of each other (which is already nigh impossible, as South hero can see the future) and just met - as soon as they see each other - both will know immediately that there is a threat in front of them: Hero will see the future, and Serie will grasp as much info as possible through intuition - and mind you, Serie is NOT care-free and stupid, she wants to live, to fight and to win - that’s why she was edging Frieren towards antagonising humans.- so she wont get rusty and wont get killed. In actuality this fight will never start. If Hero will not try sneak attack on Serie (which defeats the purpose of your comparison), then as soon as they see each other - they will turn around. Serie know all the spells, and i bet most of them are of a collosal destruction, and she is a warmonger who never cared about peace or safety of others, and South Hero, as he may will see the future of how to defeat Serie - the destruction levels and causalities would never sit right with him. And if we tip them together against their ideals, it will just result in question of what will end first: Serie’s luck, or Heroe’s stamina and wit

There is a lot of assumptions here, we still don't know what precisely is serie's intuition and she doesn't know all spells, that's why she had to use the mirror magic against macht even tho she doesn't like it

@@_Tao__she knows nearly every spell and macht's magic is literally his own magic that no one else has. it's not like his magic is recorded in a grimoire. the only way you can ever encounter his magic is through fighting him or going somewhere where he turned a place into a gold. yea you're right she doesn't know di agoldze but that's literally indivual demon magic that no one can use other than the demon who created it.

With current info, Hero of The South has high change of beating Serie but there is still so much we don’t know. The battle agains 7 sages of distruction and Schlacht is still just a legend. Maybe he is held captive in some weird dimension made by 4 great demons? Schlacht didn’t want Frieren to know about it so I’m sure what we know is not the reality. And who knows what Serie has against warriors. Probably not even Frieren knows the full extent of Serie’s magic.

but it is confirmed that Mach did help, as seen in the flashback. and the fact that Frieren said he killed 3 Sages meant that they never saw those 3 up until the end of the Demon King, thus making them likely to be dead. so we can safely assume that Hero of the South at least fought 4 Sages and the Omniscient dude, which is still a huge feat.

March helped by simple being there, he didn’t have to fight seriously like Schlacht said. 4 demons disappeared from that battle but who knows what really happend. Maybe he killed one, and 3 sealed him along with them. Maybe he only fought Schlacht and 3 other demons needed to vanish for right narrative. So many ways but we don’t know what Schlacht had planned so that demons have future even thousands years from now on.

1. Frieren is not a truly reliable source of info regarding Serie tho. She doesn't know the full extent of Serie's powers considering that she couldn't even see the instability in her mana 2. There is no proof that Serie cannot achieve what the Hero of the South achieved. I'd argue she could've even cleared the Sages back then and survive 3. If the Hero of the South could really just conveniently catch Serie off guard like you mentioned and still react to every possible counterattack considering that he can see the future, why was he unable to defeat all the Sages if the ability is that convenient. With enough planning with the future that he saw, surely he could've pulled it off.

The last chapters of the manga make it clear that the hero of the south could have defeated any magician, including Serious, if he had wanted to. The manga is so realistic because it shows you that even with the power to see the future, you cannot live if you face the most strong alone

We still don't know how strong Serie is though and what she is capable of, she's mostly just bored all the time. She has revealed in chapter 93 "I'm the Great Mage Serie. A Great Mage from a Mythical Era which existed so long ago that you demons have completely forgotten such fear." It's the same Era that the so called Goddess was last seen to walk among mortals so the two might have possibly known each other. The Goddess' magic still remains as a mystery, and so is Serie, but I think we will find out in the next chapters for unlike the Goddess, Serie is psychically here to prove her strength. It would be funny if the Goddess went time travelling and Serie just went "ok" and just wasn't' interested. I've also been seeing theories of Serie being the Goddess herself, just look at the himmel statue in the northern areas where it doen't even look like Himmel and the himmel that they praise is highly praised for perfection and made up stories, they might have shown that just to talk about the passage of time, but as the theme of the series, it wouldnt be a stretch to say that Serie might have known or had a connection to the Goddess. I am excited to see what happens to Serie in the next chapters.

My Theory is that Frieren and Serie are pretty close in power to each other with the Exception that Serie has far more knowledge and knows more spells.

South Hero played 5d chess with Schlat and both saw Frieren in their chessboard across time. I also have suspicion that Flamme possessed this foresight ability because of how she kinda prophecied Serie and Frieren's behavior and decisions before they even thought it as well as how she conceived the creation of Imperial Mage Order to level the battlefield. Both humans apologized to Frieren because they will use her to further their goals. Future chapters kinda makes me nervous because the Hero's Sword has yet to be used (Demon King isn't the calamity) and Schlat seems to be winning in the chess match. All that while Frieren's new game + is just to visit dead people in the North totally don't give af of the situation. As for Serie, I believe there won't be 7 sages left if she was in place of South Hero. Her not taking out the Demon King is because of her principle as Flamme pointed out, she don't do it for humans, and she believes in culling so tough luck on dying cuz they are weak even if they are her kind. If she's aware of South's ability, she will have counter for it. Why the future chapter have chance to eliminate Serie is because these are assassins in place full of innocent people. It doesn't help that she believes that humans will be the death of elves.

Flamme pointed out that Serie had no chance against the demon king. Also in the momery Shlaft wasnt really playing for the big win he was moslty playing to let his race survive, sacrificing himself which is out if character for a demon

When fighting in Serie Match, he was able to quickly react to a close-range attack. Unlike Frieren, Serie is not a peacetime wizard. Most likely their instincts and reflexes have been honed in battle. Seeing the future can be the Hero of the South's greatest advantage, but it can also be his disadvantage. because the future does not move in a single line.

We do not know the potential power of Serie for now. So don't jump into conclusions yet. There's a chance that serie has the ability of foresight too or something that could counter that power. Yes the hero of the south is strong but we do not know how powerful can Serie show in the battle yet.

Doesn't matter if she have those spells if she is dead she can not cast them. Whole argument rest on the the fact that melee attacks in close quarters are faster that spell casting. But then we do not even really know how hero of the south ability to see a feature works. But then if author want Serie to have some super fast casting spell or some other form of counter he can give it to her. All "what if" discussion are only interesting as an intellect training games - there is no definitive answers except "whatever author will decide".

Yeah of course The hero of the south could be a match up to Serie on a blind duel.I think he could kill Serie in a surprise attack but we don't know if she has some hidden spells like revive or some high regen spell that activates when hit or some counter to physical attacks.Well The Hero of the South would already know that before fighting her anyways.

Thats not how magic work. Its about visual imagination. In order to activate a spell and its effect, you need to be able to visualize it. In other word, you need to be alive in order to launch a spell. How the can you launch a resurrection or a near high speed regeneration spell spell when you're dead in the first place lol.

If she was, there wouldnt be such an high alert on her assassination attemp, Frieren even saying that a highly trained warrior or assassin could kill Serie if it was a suprise attack. Was literally thinking about this last night. Serie's biggest strength is her experience and thr sheer amount of spells at her disposal. The hero's biggest strength is his future sight, probably being one of the strongest magic in the manga, and also likely one of the few magics Serie doesn't know. At the end of the day, the only option Serie has to win is to have to be so much faster and stronger that the hero can't react to her even if he sees it coming. The thing that makes this s complicated is that we haven't really seen Serie's full power yet. We know the hero is more or less equivalent to schlatt and 3 demon sages, but the only fight Serie has so far is against Macht, a fight that ended well before it actually got serious.

My theory is that there are likely a handful of magics that are so deeply rooted into the psyche and experiences of certain characters that Serie is literally unable to cast them because they are restricted by perception and imagination. The Future Sight ability is probably the Hero of the South’s own unique magic, just as Di Agolze and Frieren’s invisible spell are their own unique ones.

The thing about the Radar fight you failed to mention is that he could have easily killed both Stark and Frieren if his intention was to kill no matter what. Stark would have been a free kill since he was knocked out, same for frieren. The thing is, he chose not to kill since he has grown to value his current life over his mission, which made him stop instead of delivering the fatal blow. Otherwise that would be a RIP for both stark and frieren.

I always thought power rankings were pointless. Yet, I know some shonen anime do lend themselves to this type of thing. It's a big part of how some shonen display power. Thankfully, Frieren is not one of them. I don't get why the obssesion of anime ytubers with trying to make frieren fit this mold. Power rankings are literally the furthest thing away from what the anime is trying to tell us about magic in their universe.

You have to question yourself on why would serie do that to begin with. 1. She had no interest in defeating the demons or demon king, so why would she help a hero do so? 2. If she could bestow the Hero of the South, who is not a mage, the ability to see the future, then that would mean that she Serie herself has such an ability and can learn/teach it to other people, not only that, but taught a Warrior with no experience on any magic or spell before how to use a probably divine-tier spell such as being able to see the future, which just makes your theory sound even more ridiculous. 3. Serie was not living with the human race back when Hero of the South was going around and doing stuff, she lived in isolation and had no interest in humans.

@@muatring Good questions. She has no interest in defeating the demon king herself but that doesn’t mean that she is going to stop others. Maybe somepoint of time hero of the south found her. He might not be a mage primarily but maybe her instinct still judged him worthy of ”the privilege”. Her ability give magic spells to other allows them to master instantly at the cost of her forgetting and relearning it again. How he has the mana to use such spell is bigger question for me.

Serie didn't give him that. Future sight is too crazy a magic; it is most likely in the same realm as the time travel magic, Fiala Toll, which comes from the Goddess of Creation and is exclusive only to devout believers. The most likely scenario is that the Hero of the South obtained that from the scriptures.

The old assassin that looked like he almost had frieren was hype though but in my own insight about that scene, I think the old man assassin would'nt be able to chop off frierens head, recall on an episode when frieren was attacked by that young demon who used magical wires, her mana was used on that point of her neck where the wire was so, same goes for the mimick fangs on her hips, I think the same would apply here. so regarding about the topic of the hero of the south vs seiri I think in my own perspective the hero of the south would win. But truly the story has more to be explained so in the long run I could be wrong , we will only know when the story progresses and yet to be known.

Serie literally has a spell that reflects any magical ability so if the hero of the south tried using premonition serie could also see the future as well. I think ultimately serie would be the winner because if she was an easy to kill mage she would’ve been dead. There’s no way in hell not a SINGLE warrior has thought to maybe not attack serie. She’s lived for assumed eons so I’m pretty sure serie is fine regardless of front end combat, that’s just my opinion I think with all the time and spells she has she has a protection against warriors

Mistilziela "only" repels what the caster perceives to be a curse, it doesn't reflect magic as far as we know. Whether Serie would perceive his future-sight as a curse is a different question though. It also seemingly coats the user in a protective layer and repels any curse that hits them, I'm not really sure future-sight could be reflected if it's not an attack that hits her directly. As for the warrior thing I'm sure Serie has several ways of dealing with them, but the new arc seems to be built on the premise that a non-mage assassin could kill her so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

While taking on the sages of destruction alone is still a top tier feat regardless, it's important to note that demons are terrible at cooperating. You'd still have to be insanely strong to take advantage of this but it shouldn't be assumed that the fight was as difficult as it would be if they knew how to coordinate their attacks.

So did the other demons when they tried to recruit him for the hit squad to murder the hero of the south. Serie was fodderizing the demon that inevitably would have slain the hero of the south. We also know from the manga that the hero of the south did not have the magic to reflect the massive aoe gold spell or the ability to undo the curse

@@dohalimilqarasdeldemenanci8483 So I was lazy and just read the wiki, The Hero of the South knew the 7 sages of destruction would kill him from his premonitions. Macht happened to be the strongest of the 7 sages. Schlatt the Omniscient knew he would need Macht to succeed in his plot and that is why he pulled up on him with the other sages and his own worse counterpart Graussam in order to force him into the plot. So I will admit I was wrong about The Hero specifically saying which of the Sages would kill him as he only stated that they would kill him. Nonetheless Macht is one of the 7 sages and the strongest therefore the 7 sages did see him as the necessary key or hidden weapon to his defeat. Schlatt does kill The Hero of the South though and we don’t have any real evidence that Serie would not have been able to take on the 7 sages in a similar manner, especially considering how she made a fool of the most powerful of them all. It’s very important to remember that Serie is the progenitor of Magic, and has every magic known and unknown to mankind. She existed in the mythical age and while we have only the 1 short fight to compare the two we don’t have any real evidence that she isn’t powerful enough to compete or outclass the Hero. Simply saying he fought more of them at once isn’t going to cut it because Series true power has not revealed and is regarded as mythical by the context of the story.

magic generally isn't that useful in close combact, but serie isn't just a great mage, and she lived through mythical times and times were elves roamed the earth, you could see how she toyed with macht rather than just fight, she didn't participate in the war against demon king i believe cuz she just wasn't interested but she was feared among demons before demon king was even a threat, besides she has great intuition and can sense people's intentions, if they were to fight head on with no surprise attack, hero of the south wouldn't even be able to make that distance, think of the fight frieren had with her clone as a reference. we saw incredible power when we know frieren is considered weak for her age and knowledge of spells is limited despite everything, serie knows all what frieren did there and much more, if she knows every single spell to have existed then that would include the spells that the sages of destruction used. how much she perfected those spells is a different story. to say that the hero of the south can defeat her means he can diffently practically any mage there without a surprise attack, and that us what we call a stretch. serie can just fly up high and attack while keeping her distance, the fight would be over without it even starts even the power to see the future wouldn't be very helpful here, he might as turn back if he can see the future so well

Though, It's quite bold to say that Frieren knows the full extent of Serie's capabilities and could simply using herself as a reference, though at a much higher scale as to which that would be harder to quantify. There's also a high likelihood that Serie also has the Clairvoyance Magic, as stated in the narration many times She has nearly every grimiore in existence. of course it's simply "nearly" yet we cannot ignore that possibility.

Nah, there's a high chance she doesn't have it. The only magic, as far as we know, that can touch concept like time and space are Divine Magic, magic given by the godess. Its a magic that is closer to what Priest use. When you know that Gods often favor Heroes they consider worthy, its not that hard to understand the true nature of this type of futur insight and why its unlikely that Serie know this type of magic. It is true that she know nearly every grimoire in existence, but here, its not the kind of spell you can find in grimoire. Its something that is most likely gifted by divine intervention.

Its said that the sage of destruction magic goes beyond human comprehension. Its really not that surprising that a demon fringe upon the divine realm, even if its just a fingertip.

@@TenshiNoAme the point is that a demon would not be able to use goddess magic. for one, demons don't study any other magic than their own magic(solitar and macht are exceptions) and you literally said that in your comment. 2, there's no way you think demons would be able to use the goddess's magic. if schlatt and hots have the exact same magic, it's probably not a goddess thing since demons dont study human/goddess magic and the goddess would never bestow that magic on to a demon to begin with unless she was secretly evil.

Since time travel was introduced. I am just gonna say that there's a possibility that the Hero of the South didn't pull this off alone. Haven't read the manga for months now and iirc there's a panel where HotS (nice goddam acronym) tries to recruit frieren, but throws the idea immediately. (It's like he knows they're bound to team up anyways regardless of the circumstances). Please feel free to correct me though.

A lot of people claim that the 8v1 battle is proof that the Hero has better feats. I disagree. The battle between the Hero and the demons was never shown. We don't know what exactly happened. I think this feat is weaker then most people claim. Did the Hero really killed those demons? Possibly. Did everyone fight at once? Did everyone used their powers optimally? Did the Hero have powers we don't know about? There are too many unknowns. Also, how does this precognition ability work? It is said you can look into the future for a 1000 years and even see multiple possible futures. If so, why couldn't Schlacht use it to simply take care of the Hero when he was young Skynet-style? All he had to do was to scry for the following information - will the hero cease to exist if the people in this village are gone? Repeat until you went through all the villages. Some other points: - considering Schlacht also has Precognition - the demons should have had all the info they needed to counter the Hero. - the hero is a dual wielder melee combatant and every demon has flight and they should have info about his moveset (Schlachts precog ability) - this is the pre-Zoltraak era when magic resist is trash on equipment (some demons like Macht and Solitär even know Zoltraak) - the demons have demonstrated reasonable co-op ability, thus it is expected they would help each-other in combat. An efficient co-op using illusion guy + shield guy for support would make this a nightmare scenario for the hero. I only see three ways the hero could have accomplished what he did: 1) Bad writing/stupidity - the demons for some reason did not fight seriously at first allowing the hero to defeat some of them 2) The hero had a hidden unknown power that was good enough to allow him to kill stay alive and defeat several demons while also countering Schlachts precognition 3) Schlacht is an a&#hole, who orchestrated the downfall of the ones who died Schlacht is obsessed with the survival of the demon-kind and would probably sacrifice anyone who gets in the way of that goal. He himself said that he foresaw that demon-kind survives only if both he and the Hero dies, and he did accept that. So maybe the demons who died where also somehow interfering with the continued survival of demon-kind, and Schlacht used this opportunity to get rid of them. Most demons are selfish and individualistic - who mainly care about their own survival and would not lay down their life for a higher goal. I think what happened was that Schlacht manipulated the information to create a scenario which allowed the Hero to kill the demons Schlacht wanted dead. Don't get me wrong, this is still an amazing feat, but makes more sense. Would Serie be able to solo the 8v1 demon challenge, or get as far as the Hero did? Who knows? Are there any spells that would give Serie the edge? Also unknown. One point to add here: we have the Ubel vs Sense example, that showed us how magic can be useless or super effective in different situations / vs different opponents. Maybe Serie has a people with precog ability instantly explode if they come inside a 100 feet radius spell, or her defensive spells could be useless against the Hero, since she could not imagine blocking the hero's sword. I think this is a pointless discussion. There is not enough information. We might as well throw up a coin. I like both characters and I don't like the idea of them fighting. What I would have liked to see instead is a Hero + Serie vs the demons fight.

Serie can't see the future per se, but she has an absurd intuition which "is always right". I don't know if the logic that applies to other mages in the story would work for her, as she's that much more powerful than any of them, but even if he could win the confrontation, it wouldn't mean he's stronger, just that he has a good match up. Same way as how Ubel is definitely not as powerful as Sense, but could easily defeat her. My money is in the Hero of the South giving up without fighting after seeing with his ability that there's no way to win, tho. We know the only reason she never ended the war by herself is because she couldn't visualize living in a peaceful era.

People forget that the hero of the south is taking about time way beyond the current setting, when they talk about humanity's survival it isn't about the current war with the demon lord and the hero party, it's the little steps thats gonna come out from that history from an event and influence in the future. Hero of the south was simply making foundations for the survival of humanity, the first small steps of the plan

When you realize that the mana output of Serie is still on concealed state and almost have the same or more mana output than Frieren unconceal state made Serie much more powerful. Not even Flamme, Lernen, Frieren notice the instability in her mana. Fern is the only one who notice it and made her smile. I think Serie don’t have any trouble fighting Hero of the south even the Demon king😶😶😶

Serie wins by just waiting 30-40 years when Hero of The South is just old grandpa or dead. And I mean it seriously. If you are immortal being, one of best ways to win is to just... wait for them to die. I bet Serie outlived thousands Heroes of The South from different eras since she is from era that even Demons forgot from the fear of those times. As far as battle prowess goes - my money is on Serie becasue she is warmonger and she fought in eras of things and monsters that today people can't even imagine. She has huge battle experience, even if rusty. Hero of The South is probably a peak of humanity. But Serie is from times where Godess was said to walk among mortals.

To be fair to Serie I have to note that If I were to possess the power to read the future perhaps in multiple ways, I’d likely choose not to use it most of the time, But also would get in the habit of acting like I don’t know everything… so she could’ve just acted and already had Mystilza ready to go for Di Agolze… So she could lose more likely because she wants a challenge and wouldn’t use all her massive array of abilities… though I’d also be shocked if she didn’t have some unbelievable spell allowing for use of Clone feints and even surviving kill shots and other mortal wounds… Unless the original brain is destroyed… but then I’d not be shocked if she was instantly reborn through some form of reincarnation or whatever other absurd power… I wish we got more detail on her collection and how she uses her abilities outside of what was seen in the one fight we saw… The fact she chooses not to kill because of whatever hopes of the curse reversal being learnt or achieved by someone learning how to use di agolze or mystilza (or however these words are properly transliterated ) which is kinda what ends up happening so… Maybe she knows all of history… Or even is the goddess… It wouldn’t be too big a shock reveal to save for later right? But I think she’d already have numerous ways to defeat him within a moment of making eye contact probably and probably easier than the 8 top demons under the demon king… it just wouldn’t shock me… But that’s not to underestimate the hero of the south… if he didn’t die beating half of all of that lot then he’d probably be overshadowing everyone else and I dunno how many hero statues he’s got… Though we have hero statues of plenty of folks people would call non heroes cause of never knowing them in their time etc. And statues are just propagandist formalities often… so who knows how well he holds up against her… Do we have her saying she’d not win against the demon king or is there a more complex reason she wouldn’t engage in combat with certain demons?! I kind of expect a twist to all that in regard to something like elves turned evil or something… but that’s a bit tinfoil and overly poetic even if it goes a route like whatever I just hinted around without saying much : D Fun stuff to think about… do love the way this story handles almost everything…

I disagree with only one statement. That Frieren would have been killed by Radar if it weren't for Stark returning. For me, it seemed like she was not completely serious, because she could rely on teammates. Being pinned down means nothing to a mage like Frieren who has for human standard immesurable mana ressources to quick cast spells. Portraying mages being slower with their spells than warriors also isn't necessarily true, considering mages also fight in close quarters and have to fight battles with constant blasts and explosions. Serie herself also believed to win in a 1v1 duel against the Demon King, the pinnacle of demonkind. The only reason she was not capable of visualizing it, was due her rejection of a peaceful era that would follow according to Flamme. I'm sure top tier warriors will be shown in the next arc truly as powerful figures in their own right though. For Serie and the HoS, I wouldn't make the bold statement yet to call one stronger than the other.

She has the knowledge all the human magic ever developed and more. It's not beyond her knowledge to know divination. Her restricted mana is on par with frieren unrestricted mana. The video referenced what frieren said about Stark might have a chance with surprise attack might have been a miscalculation as anyone who aware frieren can be absent minded on certain things and her mana perception is almost like rookie mage.
